As some of you may recall, I chipped up the finish on my RC-3 and decided to fix it. A $10 blueing kit and some elbow grease later, and these were the results:

I like it a lot and have been thinking stripping mine as well.

Out of curiousity, what purpose does blueing the knife serve? This is something I am not familiar with.

Thanks for the compliments all! Especially you, Jeff. It means a lot coming from the man himself!

Very cool! What did you use to touch up the RAT logo?

It's just the original epoxy coating, but when I sanded the rough steel of the blade it smoothed the epoxy out a bit. It's on there pretty thick, so it didn't wear away entirely--and if it does it'll be bare uncoated metal underneath so you'll still see it in high def! :)

It's essentially a chemically controlled slow oxidation of the steel that forms a protective layer over the steel. Commonly used on non-stainless firearms.

Thanks guys! The blueing seems really durable, too. I just batoned with it today and no scratches to be seen!

Heh heh. The crevices of the logo are gummed up with wood fibers again. It's dong its job! :D
