RC-3 vs. H.E.S.T ?

I'd vote RC3MIL.

It comes in plain or serrated edge.

A while back Jeff came across a need for the glass breaker and didn't have anything else to break the glass.

Don't get me wrong, I think the HEST is a great idea, but unless you're in a place where you need to open a lot of pop tops, I think the RC3 is more useful day-to-day.

I have both the rc3 and the HEST and switch carrying them day to day. I like the way the hest feels but never had to use the bottle opener. I have used the pry bar several times. I am guilty of using blades to pry with in the past so the pry bar does come in handy.

It's a no brainer RC-3mil or HEST RC-3mil or HEST RC-3mil or HEST HEST RC-3mil or HEST
the answer is bolth,Im guilty of edcing them at the same time.but if it had to be only one
RC-3mil.

Just got my HEST in the mail from KSF. So far I like the way it feels. I have small hands and it feels great to hold and swing it around. Will post some comments about it after I put it thru some testing. I am a newbie to knife collecting so I probably won't answer many questions about this knife, but I feel that before I say something about a product I need to actually have it and use it.

As a part-time paramedic and oilfield safety responder I can see many possible uses for the knife and its features.

...but I feel that before I say something about a product I need to actually have it and use it.

A wise newbie is a treasure for any forum.
I'm heading forward reading your review.

Given the quality of the RATs it is most likely win-win. I don't have an RC-3 but I do have a H.E.S.T. and I really like it. I like the added grip the bottle opener gives me. I like keeping a firesteel and some Wetfire and a fishing hook and line inside the handle. That's my 2 cents.

i mean, you can take off the scales on the rc-3 right? i might do that and wrap it. but the rc3 is cheaper isnt it? and the same size too?

Took the HEST to work today and tried it out some. Cut some tree twugs off and swung it pretty hard on some bigger limbs. Felt great in my hand. Did some whittling on a 2X4 and it maintained the edge very well and didnt seem to bent the blade at all. Alos cut some 5 gallon buckets and stabed them with it. Havent had the time to take it out into the wilderness and really put it thru some paces but so far, I am happy with the purchase and feel like i got a good deal.

I went with the H.E.S.T. because of the thicker blade...but I like thick blades.

So far I am extremely happy with my decision and thinking of getting an Izula as well.

Ok, well I love the RC-3, it is my favorite bush knife (I have 4 of them) BUT for a EDC blade, I am voting for the HEST because it is easier to carry without drawing a lot of attention. I have both and neither one will ever let you down (No RAT blade ever would). Izula makes a great EDC too.

I love my H.E.S.T. which is now my B.E.S.T. (Beercap Extraction Survival Tool) due to the removal of the prybar/horn. It is a great size and weight and comfortable to wear all day.

My first RAT/ESEE knife should be arriving within the next couple of days. I am super excited to play with my HEST!

After using the pry bar to open my frozen-shut truck door the other night...I'm even more glad I went with the HEST.

.

You couldn't just pee on it to free it up?

Didn't really have the urge :) , and besides it was frozen all the way around where the snow had melted and then froze again. I had to gently pry in a few spots but it worked well.
