Excuse the ignorance, but what's the difference between canvas and micarta scales? Is it just the texture?

The canvas scales are micarta. Micarta is material that's laminated in resin, usually linen or canvas in the knife world.

actually micarta is the product of resin pemiated material. It is typically made with paper, canvas, linen, burlap, that sort of thing. It is covered in resin and put under pressure. The result is a nearly indestructable handle. :D

Sorry, I just reread my post and it doesn't make sense. Lets try again: What is the difference between canvas micarta and linen micarta?

linen looks "prettier", but canvas is rougher and provides a little bit more grip IMO
close up pictures can help you get an idea of the texture, but the advantage of canvas is that small pieces of the fabric poke up through the epoxy, giving the user more grip.

Derrick has em. Mine arrived Saturday evening. Man that canvas is sweet! I'd vote for it on all the RAT line. I love how they dont come too polished. It really allows for a good grip.
