I tried it on my plate carrier and got it on with much difficulty. Knew that's not what it intended for but tried to make work both ways. I was pissed when it was 10x harder to get it off and I don't think I could lock it either.

That's a new Large TL. The one posted earlier is an older version. Still don't know jack about either working with MOLLE gear, but there may be a difference in possibilities between the two.

As for the OP. I don't have an ESEE-4, but I've made sheaths for every attachment option out there, and I prefer simple paracord or webbing for all of my own knives. Paracord/webbing lets me carry tight against the body, drop the sheath low, attach to gear, etc without changing out anything. Tek-Loks and other doodads just get in the way and act as another thing to get hung up on in my opinion. I'm fairly thin (5' 10". 165 lbs) though, so bringing the blade in close may make less since for people who are heavier.
 

if you use zip-ties instead of paracord in this setup you will get a much tighter fit. does not look like a premium solution, but it works! i've even seen law-enforcement guys run around with it...

It's has alot more retention than you think I still need to wear my belt with out the 4 sometimes:D
