RC-4 vs RC-5

Ok, I am sold on the 6 over the 5. Although, now I am going back and forth on if I even really need something between the RC-3 and a Junglas. Need being the operative word here cause I know I want, but... Thoughts?

4" just like in life is the difference :D
I would go RC3 & RC6 & Junglas then all bases are covered and as extra money comes in you can buy another RC blade as cash allows but with the RC3/RC6/Junglas covers everything

hmmm, ok thanks texastonydobbs

Wish as store in town carried them so I could actually handle and see the difference between the three. If I have missed it and someone knows if a store in or around Houston that carries RAT Cutlery please let me know.

I live in Katy, you want to meet somewhere and handle a RC-5 just let me know and we'll get in touch.

who made the sheath and do you have a pic handy?
Here is the thread....

The RC-4 is a great knife and probably my favorite of my RATs, but I will agree with TTD about the RC-6. If you are looking for a larger knife, the RC-6 would be a great fit. It's the same thickness as the RC-4.

My vote would be to wait, get the Junglas and re-evaluate what holes need to be filled. Just MO.

I second Spenced's post. I go into the woods with just the Izula, RC-4, small folding saw and I probably don't really need the 4. I have an axe in base camp.

The RC4 is the perfect size for me....I too wish it had the blade profile of the RC5, meaning no choil.

Cool! I may have to take you up on that. Any chance you will be going to the Hoodlums campout in May?

I am not familiar with that campout? Offer is still good though.

Speaking of camping though, my RC-5 has been camping twice now at Stephen F Austin...an awesome camp knife. The handle of the RC-5 is different than the 4 and 6...it's bigger, shaped differently, has canvas rather than linen micarta slabs, all of which make the handle work/fit better for ME. All are great knives, but the RC-5 fits my hand the best. I own way too many knives, good ones that that don't fit my hand "just right" and they never make it into my pack. Do yourself a favor and try them all (RC-4/5/6)before settling on one.I don't think anyone on here would disagree with that.

I like my five. It works really for anything, but it is a tank. While it can do anything, the rc6 can do it all better in the woods. Three, six, a machete, axe and saw makes for a mean combo

Minor correction. The only diffrence between the five and six handles, is the thickness of the blade. They're otherwise exactly the same shape. I've swapped the scales on mine, and if you look at Tonys sheath photo, you'll probably see something odd about that rc6

The RC-6 that I have had in my hands have all been linen micarta, which for me, didn't feel the same and as comfortable as the canvas. It is just the little things like this, which can make a big difference to some. It's a personal thing and the knife should fit comfortable in your hand. In my particular case, the RC-6 would not be able to do the work easier than the 5. It could do the work, that is for sure...but for me, not easier. They both can do the job, but find the one that fits you best.

I will PM you the website. It is a website for wilderness survival and such. They have a couple Texas camp outs (each state actually) a year and offer different "primitive skills" classes at each for free. The next one is in May.

An axe is my next purchase. I have been looking around trying to decide. Wish RAT made one ;-)

other than the bow drill notch? :D
actually, i was considering drilling one in one of my RPK scales, but I kind of hate damaging the G10.

I had an RC-3, I just recieved my RC-4. It's basically the same size, just thicker and heavier.

I should have waited for an RC-6.

I have an RC-5 and it is very large. Also, not being a flat grind, it is extra heavy due to all the extra steel. I'm looking to downsize to the RC-3. I have the HEST, but, want a little larger knife as well. The 5 was just too big for me.
