This is the concept logo we're thinking about doing for the RC-5 SERE. This way we can just change the text out at the top for whoever buys the knife. This is not the final logo, just a concept at this stage. Since we haven't researched other logos, yall let us know if there is another knife company using something real close to this.

I like the design alot. Dont much care for the skull. Just kinda morbid to me, personal preference I guess.

Or we could just steal this old DEA Operation Snowcap South America logo:

You will see the skull a lot in various SERE logos that we did research. I guess the implication is either get your ass out or die.

I think that logo is perfect just the way it is, and I'm not just saying that because I am prior Air Force:rolleyes:

A couple of suggestions from my experience as a graphic artist. 1st and foremost the skull has way to much fine detail that will not reduce well; it'll will loose all that detail when smaller and just look like a mushy skull.
The rest of my suggestions are purely aesthetic
2nd I would consider doing a scrolled banner with the USAF instead of the the curved block. 3rd the SERE looks a bit horizontally stretched-out I would also use a more blocky font in bold. 4th and last I would increase the font size a little on the RC and I would also make it a strikeout (an outline) that way the RC will have a differentiation from the rest of the text.
Just my .02

I don't recall a logo influencing me to buy or not to buy, certainly won't stop me from strongly considering what the SERE looks like it will turn out to be (I like overbuilt gear.) But skulls do not turn me on. As an anthropologist I studied a lot of them so they don't have much more than a "laboratory" connotation for me. I just don't get the currrent infatuation with them. Then again, where I grew up, halloween was not a holiday, so anything like that just seems creepy to me, outside of an academic context.

Really not a "current infatuation" ~ the use of skulls in insignias dates back to at least WW II, and has been used continually ever since by the Special Operations Community, both here and abroad.

:)

Ok, here are my opinions. I agree with Bare Rib, the skull should be changed. The Punisher style skull is EXTREMELY popular, I've seen it just about everywhere (SEALs, SF, AF, USMC, you name it).
Secondly, I think there should be USAF, USN, etc scrolls, while we don't think much of it (and many servicemen don't either) there are a more than a few Leathernecks I know who wouldn't want to have "USAF" on their blade, just my experience.
Using the older style scroll would look better too, IMHO.

Bada$$. I'd buy the knife just for the logo. Also I like the simpler skull as well. Kinda like the Ghost Recon/ punisher style skull.

Personally I wouldn't use the Punisher stiled skull as it is just current fad hype from a bad movie based on a really good comic book. I think that using a more "classic" military style would be better as I think it would imbue more of what RAT Cutlery is about.

Jeff what program did you use for the mock-up and what file format is it in?

True, in three years I don't think we'll be seeing that skull...but the movie is four years old so I'm not sure about that. I went with this skull design because it just looks the best. Classic Punisher skull just doesn't cut it anymore. Could we get a picture of the "classic" style skull?
