So we had an extrication demo for Hurst today at the fire house and I had my newly acquired, never cut with 5 in the truck. So I figured, lets see what this can do. I don't have any shots of during but just the after affects.

Cut through 10 seat belts, 5 car seats, 2 head liners, 50' of wires/battery cables, 2 plastic fenders and 2 full windshields. Also used the pommel to knock out all the side windows and 2 sunroofs. Pried with it to get a purchase point on the hoods and trunks.

Only thing I wish I had gotten was one with serrations, but I bought this from the original owner, so my next one will have serrations.

I think I need to sharpen it now. Really had the urge to pound it through the roof or car doors but didn't want to chip the point.

p.s. how it looked right before.

FINALLY! A 5 looking like it should!
I think every other 5 I've seen looks like they have been underutilized. This one is living up to its heritage, even if it HAS only been in training so far. :D

Looks to me he used it to get to the 5 and there is some paper covering the rest of it. Hopefully. Moose

That's a beautiful 5!!! :-)

FWIW, you can grind in your own serrations - that's how they make them - this is why you don't need a special sharpener with a serrated ESEE knife.

Glad to see you put your 5 to some real use! If you get a chance to do it again, try and get some video for us.

oh, please!

i've smacked an old Western with a very pointy tip and thin, upswept blade thru sheet metal that's probably comparable to most modern cars (old school lockers) with no damage. but then it wasn't exactly sharp when i started.

the ESEE 5 is thicker, with a less pointy tip and has the warranty. i doubt that the sheet metal would do anything to the tip or edge that wouldn't sharpen out or come back with the use of a steel.

Great to see a knife doing what it's supposed to. You just made my mind up for me, my next knife will be the RC-5. Thanks

Quite the workout. I'm with you on the serrations. If ever there was a knife that could utilize them, the RC-5 is surely that. You would just buzz through electrical wiring:D

Look again more closely, that Izula blade has been snapped in two.

Ssssshhh! You weren't supposed to see that. It's the new prototype chisel/pry bar. Top secret stuff. :D
