RC-6 chips

i went to page two and saw your comment... then back to page 1 and no pictures :D i thought you meant the OP posted too small of a picture :D

The dings are probably .25 to .5mm deep

Thats a huge chip/dent whatever it is..I am going to put my head on the chopping block and say that its impossible...or damn near impossible to do if you were chopping dead wood.

You must have hit a rock..and if the dents or chips are as deep as you say they are, you would totally remember not only the sound your RC6 made when you would have hit the rock , but also you eould have felt that in your hand.

I think you'd totally remember..???

I did get a few pics last night, but forgot to bring the camera in to download. Maybe up tonight. It was dead fall, and it was not on the ground. No chance of nails. I do enjoy using my knives hard, but don't enjoy chopping with the 6. Too much work. I was just a bit surprised that 1095 would chip. I would have expected a rolled edge or something. I did get a few good close pics, but cant post till tonight. Thanks for the input.

No chance of nails.

Not like I'm accusing you of anything or anything like that as odd things do happen...but at this point I'd be more interested in seeing pics of what you were chopping than the knife. Most people don't chop with the tip so was it fairly large in diameter?

A lot of people have passed through this world ahead of us. There are woods now where old homes used to be and you would be surprised where you can find nails. Secondly trees will often "pick up" rocks while they grow and take them up higher in their stumps than you might think, and third lots of people use trees for target practice. I have hit nails, rocks, and steel shot with my chainsaws and axes when cutting trees in places in the woods. I know where there is 30 acres of woods that was once a share crops site with houses and barns and sheds and what have you. I had been playing in those woods for some time never knowing that had been there.

Yea, there's nothing like hitting a hidden barb wire with a chain saw. But really, a few knicks in the blade while chopping don't shock me. It's metal,it happens.

Yeah sand and grit is actually common in wood.

I use my 6 for everything from chopping to carving, not because it is the best at anything but it is good for everything and I think it is fun to get things done with the least amount of tools, just for fun. And you do get better with a tool the more you use it for different things, also fun. More than likely this will be the knife with me when shit happens. If you chip 1095 you will chip almost any steel it happens not a big deal, but are you sure these are not dents. I have not chipped any of my carbon steel knives in the ten years I have been playing with my knives in the woods. I do treat my knives like quality tools but I do not baby them either. Chips in 1095 at HRC 57 is weird. Post pics cause what you think a chip is may not be to me.
