So I decided to try my hand at a few different handle mods for my RC-6. The first one I did was a triangle pattern and the second was a dimpling.

Now take into account I did not finish either one but I want to get everyone's opinion on what they like better before I finish. Plus I just ran out of time for the day! ;)

The triangle pattern adds much more grip than the dimples but they are both cool in there own rights.

Opinions??????

Well, neither particularly strike my tacticool senses. Though I must admit that the checkered pattern makes me hungry for grilled chicken. I suggest you pick the one that you like the best! I don't think anyone should use or modify a personal tool because of the opinions of others.

God bless,
Adam

I agree, but would add that I have contemplated doing a texture like the second one (dimpled)...so to answer your question, that is the one I would be inclined to try for myself.

Regarding looks and perceptions of others...dimples are really hard to space PERFECTLY, and if you ask me, they need to be spaced perfectly and all be the same depth (or have a specific pattern to the variance in depth). Otherwise it looks like a bad DIY job to discerning eyes.

I agree with you all thus far on the dimpling.....I started off thinking about a pattern but then I though....hell just make it random.... I prefer the second but in the same breath I like things that are "different" and not the same as everyone else.

Hey J, nice work, I just "Gripped" up a brandy new RTAK II today i took pics but cant post till i get that wire for camera to computer. Looks nice, I just prefer the random freehand style but its kool to see some different mods and, what i like doent mean a thing anyway!!!!! Keep up the good work.:thumbup::thumbup:

I just took a secnd look at your pics, i like the "pimples" the best out of the 2. I just like to get mine grippy and maybe look kind of kool. Actually this one im gonna strip and patina also, it will be my first and if i screw it up you will get some business..... CAMO Pattern.

I think the dimple idea would be even better if you glued rubber BB's in the dimples for a more positive grip.

i like the dimpling but i would like to see bigger dimples a bit closer together. but thats just my .02 cents

I realy like that triangle pattern! its hard to get it as parallel with the same depth. niceley done

With dimpling my handle i used a tamplate to get the space right. this is to prevent a bad DIY job;) I wrote a how-to about it for Beckers...check out http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=795534

I really like the look of that triangle pattern, has to me damn comfortable in the hand too!

Nice work. Especially the triangles, which I would prefer.

But me personally, I do not like textures like that on micarta. At least not the kind of micarta that ESEE uses. The smooth stuff, that is almost like G10, yeah, it would be handy. But in generally, don't like textures very much. You just haven't lived until you've tried to get deer fat our of tiny crevices like those dimples. On a G10 scale, it would work for me, because then, worst case, I could let things soak a little bit. But I've already learned my lesson on letting micarta soak, ESPECIALLY if it has liners.

Triangle pattern! You already say you like it and it feels comfortable. My tight from a practical standpoint is it might be easier to clean when used. When you wipe it one direction all the groves clean out when you wipe it the pother the other groves clean out – dimples might be harder to clean out - dried blood- tree sap- the kind of stuff a used knife collects.
Ps Zini. Used to live in PA. Now Alaska. Here we call ourselves River Rats. I lived on a houseboat 25 years trapped etc. New here to the forum. See you are into firearms – knives and such. I liked your words on Christmas and what you did.

Milesofalaska.....welcome to the forum!!

Thanks for your input. I too like the triangle pattern better and will more than likley stick to it and the other one I did with small groves in the top and bottom. (it is more than enough on a small knife)

I collect and use guns of all calibers and knives of all sizes and shapes. My side business is mod'ing knives with Cerakote and Duracoat but I am branching out into other modification work. It takes time to get good enough to do this stuff to other peoples knives but I am getting there.

My vote would be for the dimpled one. But I really like the tan RC-4. It's giving me an idea for what I want to do to my RC-6.
