Another hair brained scheme. I'm sitting there looking at my BK-7 sheath and admiring that little pocket and the little survival kit I stuck in there and thinking, "I really Like a pouch on my sheath, but I hate nylon sheaths". Then it hit me, just add a pouch to the RC-6 sheath!

So a quick search of the house led to several possibilities. The best ones coming from a couple of little camera cases made for pocket cameras. They have a velcro belt clip on the back that lashes perfectly into the paracord threaded through the sheath eyelets and forming the belt loops.

Its probably a little bit thicker than prudence should allow. The sad lesson of a PSK. The bigger the pouch the more crap you try to stick in there. I'm still not fully done stuffing it with stuff either!

Wearing it isn't too bad although the set up will be improved when I can get my hands on that coveted drop down attachment! What I really love about this combo is I can simply reach down, grab the pouch and detach it one handed. This lets me open the contents without having to take the sheath off my belt. Also lets me stuff more crap in there than I need to (must have self discipline).

Front part of the pouch, less water proof - Doan stick, trusty SAK, lypsol (for chapped lips, but also petroleum jelly for fire), insect repellant (okay not needed now), couple of ranger bands (just handy to have).

Main pouch - bandaids, mole skin, iondine package and alcohol wipe, gauze pad, 2 safety pins, imodium (err needed one its Cdn thanksgiving!), gravol (anti-nausea pill), antihistamines (allergy), water treatment tablets. Fire kit in ziplock bag (also used for water if needed): mini-bic, REI-storm proof matches in foil (foil for cooking/fire base), fatwood, jute twine (tinder & cordage), tinder fungus (chaga).

Things I'd like to stuff in there....Garbage bag for shelter, trail tape (signal), fish hooks, tooth floss (cordage/fishing line).

What else am I missing?

Who else is going to make one of these? If you do - lets see a pic!

What else am I missing?

Can you ever have too much gear? :D

How about a signaling device and/or a compass?

Condom for water?

Water purification tabs?

Tiny little Tabasco sauce bottle filed with Zippo fuel?

Big sewing needle and maybe thread?

Great stuff Rotte - button compass....Should be slapping my head on that one. I have an extra survial whistle with button compass, whistle and fresnel lens I'll add that in there.

There is two water purification tabs in there already.

Sewing needle + thread is a good idea.

Fuel...I feel pretty good on that fire set up. The alcohol wipe serves as accelerant if needed and multiple windproof matches will really blaze up. Plus adding some petroleum jelly to the jute twine increases burn.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I would add some Vitamin M (motrin), a good anti-inflammatory can make things much more bearable. Also, I would put a paracord lanyard on the knife or a length in the pouch.

That looks awesome - nice work!

I know this is moving to more FAK than survival kit, but, I'd add a sterile topper or surgipad to control bleeding for bigger cuts - last thing you want to do is use a dirty piece of clothing or bandana.

It could also double as tinder if you needed it...

Good idea on the pain killer! I use a lanyard on my choppers but over time decided I do not like one on a mid-sized and smaller blades like this one. When I add one on, I invariable take it off during use. Just not my thing. Thanks for the pain killer suggestion!

Cool - but what is a surgi-pad? Much bigger version of a guaze pad???

I wish I could stuff a triangle badage in there - thousand and one uses - sling, big bandaide, bandana, filter...

We're not too far away from releasing the RC-6 / RC-5 accessory pouch that bolts directly to the sheath's bolt pattern. We already have a prototype. Production should be in when we get back from Peru.

Sounds interesting.

I love the idea of kits with knives/attached to the sheath. My RC 5 has a firekit on it.

Neato!

I kinda did the same thing with a Maxpedition pouch. I decided that it's good to have it on the knife so it's all together, but if/when I have to use it, the pouch comes off and goes on my belt.

Hey thanks for the responses everybody. Also looking forward to the official pouch pocket when it comes out.

pretty cool set up Ken... i have always thought carrying a few basic item's with your knife, is a great idea...

i'm looking forward to seeing the RAT pouch...:D

I've got that same pouch, but I don't put that much stuff in it. I like how easy it is to take off/on from the belt.

Nice setup. I never thought about adding something to the sheath like that.

I'm excited about the RAT pouch also. Gotta start saving now.
