RC-6's Are HERE!

Thanks. I was already fully familiar with the dealer list page. Just wondering who had any in stock. I didnt know there were only 6 sent per dealer. Thanks for the info.

...I know this is random, and it's not meant as an insult or anything, but I was randomly thinking of how we could call the RAT Cutlery groupies the Cola Crew... (as in RC Cola) sorta like the Busse groupies' Kool-Aid Club... ohhh yeahhh... hahaha!

Kinda clashes with your sig line I authored, doesn't it?:D

Besides the products are too good to have just a cult following.;)

We received our RC-6's Friday, they went out today. We are shipping in the same order that the pre orders came in. If you did not get a ship notice today in your email you should get your knife in the next lot (hopefully they'll be here soon).

I got to tell you these are some very fine knives.

UPS says my RC-6 will be delivered tomorrow (Friday)!

It's going to be a long day ;)

Pics to follow,

You won't be disappointed Harold. Humbled - maybe, but definitely not diappointed! Its an awesome blade!

What exactly makes the RC 6 "so much better made" than the RAT 7?! It is the same material, both the blade and handle material; and the blade is the same grind and shape. The only significant difference that I can see is that it is about an inch shorter and costs twice as much. Seems to me that people expect the RC versions to be better than the RAT ones because they cost so much more. From what I have seen, the improvements do not justify the price increase. Don't get me wrong, I think both blades are superb, but I don't believe one is so much better than the other.

:foot: ;)

( I've got to put that after all of your posts so far and so far that seems to be the nicest reply you may get)

other than that Hi welcome to BF:thumbup:

Thanks for the welcome.

Is there some unspoken rule about hating the Ontario knives on this forum? If so, I apologize.

...or am I just misunderstanding the comment?

rg598,

This is a tricky issue for you to bring up. Jeff and Mike designed the RAT-7 and they also designed the RC-6. So in terms of designers the knives are equivalent. The difference really amounts to the implementation of that design.

While I do not own an Ontario Rat, I have handled a few blades in different sizes and configurations. I own several RC-blades, RC-3, RC-4 (2x), RC-6 (2x). I can tell you from my personal experience that the rat cutlery blades have excellent fit and finish. The Ontario blades that I handles have had different levels of F&F. Some may be fine, others are a little off. There are horror stories out there.

So your question is - is the RC' versions of Mike and Jeff's very good design worth the nearly 50% to 80% increase in price. Quality wise, my answer is yes. There is consistency in an RC-knife that cannot be had in an Ontario Rat. If you are buying your knife and thinking to yourself - is this knife going to survive everything that I can throw at it. The best way to answer that is to see if it starts with RC-X in its name. The Ontario's - you could after all get lucky and get an awesome blade at an awesome price. The RC-variety - that is going to happen every time.

My 2 cents :)

We don't hate anyone here. There are some disagreements between us and Ontario and that's for the lawyers to work out. So, whatever works personally for someone is the blade or tool they should carry. Welcome to our forum rg598!

Jeff,
You're 100% right. While we may try to "inform" newer knife user/buyers, they are quite welcome to choose any knife that they enjoy.
When you check the street price of RC-RAT's vs Ontario rats, there's really not much difference $-wise. So I'd choose the known QUALITY one ~ ; - )
