RC3 or RC4

That's true. This picture was posted a long time ago for a quick relative comparison. The knives were layered in the photo so it's not 100 percent accurate.

Coolness, that pic is enough for me. RC-4 is OTW, RC-3 is on hold for a bit.

the 5 and the 6...when they're available.

Would I be better off getting the RC4 SE than PE since it'll most likely be used to cut rope/cloth while camping, and the blade's still long enough to have plenty of a plain edge left for cutting?

I think the SE edge will serve you better.....and if you dedicate it to other chores plenty of PE for that....and RC SE is very simple to resharpen...

+1 on that. The RC-3 at 1/8" is to thin for an all around camp knife. It's great for feather sticks/traps and such but the RC-4 at 3/16" IMHO would make a better all around. Now the RC-5 when released will be and awsome blade, at last we will finally pry and dig and start fires and baton etc. etc. all in the comfort of 1/4" STEEL!!! whoo hoooo.

Ok, I know this is my first post here, but I have to confess that I don’t quite understand the above perspective. I’m not trying to be a jerk here but I fail to understand how the RC3 isn’t able to baton, dig, pry, or do any of the other tasks described. Perhaps I am simply just misreading/misunderstanding the above post but I would think that the RC3 should be able to do all these things in stride. I personally LOVE the fact that blade is only 1/8 thick. I’m tired of knives that are so tactical that they are virtually impractical for 99% of basic uses. I’m not implying that such is the case for other RAT products, just that I am over the idea of a KNIFE that prys better than it cuts.

I understand that I could be totally missing the boat here, as it seems that Jeff is often remarking how the RC3 are more popular w/ tactical guys, which in no ways describes me. I plan on using my RC3 (waiting for a green/orange one) for general camping stuff, which for me includes skinning/processing large game (as well as batoning wood). I like a thinner stock ‘cus to me that equals a keener edge and 1/8” of any decent carbon steel should be just fine w/ prying joints apart or just about anything short of implementing some kind of lever…right? Sorry this was so long winded, I guess maybe I am just wondering if I am way off and expecting too much from my RC3. Anyone out there who has subjected theirs to “hard” use wish to correct my (overly hopeful?) thinking (and save me from buying two knives)?

TIA

I think if your comfortable with a small blade, the RC-3 can do everything you need it to do. Bearthedog I hope you don't mind me using your thread, but you have a great way of showing what a knife can do.

Feel free!
If it helps anyone out, I would go anywhere in the world with the RC-3 and I know I will be fine.

Damn you people with all your nifty new offerings. :D Now I have to wait for an RC-5, so I can give you more money.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is the "bow drill divot"?

You hold it on top of the "drill" of a bow drill, to keep it in place.
