RC4 and Gator

I used it one week in Peru and I learned two things. Bug spray in th jungle doesn't work and Permethrin burns and agitates your skin when wet for days against your exposed body parts.

Yeah, I know...I spent 6 months in Patuca, Ecuador and had several trips every few weeks between Ecuador, Peru and Panama. I was joking a little, but I have put it on my legs with no ill-effect, but it's not something you want to do on regular basis. I'm jealous about your trips and want to go on one down there...it's a beautiful area and we did a modified "jungle survival" school from the cadre in the Ecuadorian training camp we co-habitated with. I've also been lucky in the outdoors/field...when everybody else got bee stings, spider bites, chiggers, ticks or ant bites, I've always been relatively unscathed. But...I really am impressed at how well Permethrin repels critters!

Tony,

That does it, I got to get me a RC-4!!! Tony, can you please tell me what kind of pouch you have on your sheath and how you attached it??

Rock this may be just a fluke but the first time I went to Peru there were way more bug bites on me with Permethrin and I had a reaction to it. Last time in July I went without anything but a long sleeve shirt and only had a few bites. Crazy!

Sorry for the hijack!

Yeah, sorry for the hijack texastonydobbs (your spider started it:D)...That's interesting Bear? Permethrin may have caused a reaction and even a highlighted you as a target (something different must me good to eat:confused:). We slept in big tents with a wood floor...we also had several tarantulas as visitors, but the biggest problem was bats with rabies (slept on cots with a mosquito net). Worst fear was malaria (we had one NCO come down with it and it put him out of commission for a few months...had to evac him back to Panama). The jungle is full of bugs and if you sit around long enough, some of them will think you're lunch. We followed a bunch of kids up a small river (no trail) to a swimming hole...and they were barefoot:eek: I'll stick to jungle boots or my Chaco sandals thank you very much! Still, if I had a choice of South America or Europe, it would be South American hands down! My wife want to go to Peru and hike into the Machu Picchu ruins...it's on our 5-year vacation calendar...

Sorry again for the hijack!

man for all u spider haters...i know how you feel, except its for roaches. ill take a spider over a roach any day of the week.

What kind of sheaths are those? You have a whole survival kit in one sheath. I'm interested in the contents. Great pictures:thumbup:

Thanks bear for covering for me bro...the spider I think is a wolf spider ?,I was looking to find out what it was myself, but I have seen them all my life here in texas and have never been bothered by one...just thought I would share it with you guys !

I like the spider.
I've learned to coexist with spiders (wolf and bananna/golden orb spinner) in my house. It means I don't have to coexist with many insects.

I actually don't mind wolf spiders, but that one is a monster! Spiders are okay as long as they aren't on me...otherwise I'd be flailing my arms and running in circles screaming like a 3 year old girl:D
