I got my rc4 to go with my HEST. I love the HEST it fits my hand great is lite and a easy carry. The rc4 in tan is a looker but it is a heavy sucker for it's size. The handle is short the pommel doesn't extented out of my hand. It shows when wearing a untucked shirt. It seems short for spliting wood or chopping. Like the rc5 or 6 whould be a better choice.

 I have the RC-5 and an IZULA; the RC-5 is my hard use blade, My IZULA is used hard but more for smaller jobs( field dressing, EDC etc.). I really like both knives...try the 5.

The rc-4 is a flagship knife for its size. It is a stand on its own main user in the wilderness for bushcraft so thickness and heft are necessary. You cannot beat its capability at that size. It is my wife's main user. For me though it is small as a primary, My hands are thick. In comparison me using my Esee RC-6 is like my wife using the RC-4. KNIFEABILIT-a must for all humans

I would have to agree that around here the 5 seems to get the red headed step child treatment. Not from me though, it was my first ESEE knife and is still my absolute favorite!

I've got a 5 and izula in OD, the OD 4 on order, and am all ready looking to get two more, the HEST for EDC and another 5 in black. I do love the micarta scales for all these blades. I figure with the HEST and the 5 you should be able to do just about anything. With the small differences between the 5 and 6 in cutting length why not get the tank.

My RC-4 gets more use than any of my other RAT knives. I think its a great all around user.

On this forum, the ESEE4 is the darling child.

The ESEE5 is the redheaded stepchild with the 6 not far behind.

sorry i don't understand this thread....I love all my esee children equally...just some more equal than others......the 4 does get used the least but it is the jack of all trades and master of none....if i could only have one i would pick the 4..but since i can have all of them(and almost do)I have the luxery of picking the one best suited for the task at hand....

RC-3 is my favorite, followed by the RC-4. But honestly, and ESEE blade is just fine by me. :)

RC-4's definitely my fav.

was just using it today as a matter of fact to chop/baton a sapling down when my brother asked me why I have all these ESEE knives..., he likes them now.

Jim, if you don't want your -4, PM me or check out my sale thread for possible trade.

I have a HEST, actually a couple of them, and an RC-4 also and I use them both.

I do love the HEST, it's an awesome knife and often a close companion that gets used, but I love the RC4 too and use it for a lot of things.

I think the RC/ESEE4 is a great field knife. I still want an ESEE5 or 6, but I'll be happy for a while just once I drill the bow divot into the RC4.

That pic. above, tan RC4 with wet mircata handles (looks like black mircata)looks great, I think black & Tan make a great combo

I will adopt your redheaded stepchild RC-4!
That would give me 3 of em.

I love mine, but to be honest - I don't get the HEST at all.
Never held one or used one - just looks odd to me.
