rc6 with 1/4 in 1095 steel

Busse does have a few in that size range in 1/4" thickness, they also have a few that are as thin as the RC6. The Satin Jack Tac comes to mind right away.

Swamp Rat offered a M6 that is 1/4" sr101, similarly the Scrap Yard has a Scrapper 6.

Becker has a goodun in that same size range.

I'm sure there's quite a few I am missing.

I think 1/4 inch is overkill in almost all situations. Considering I have done most of what I need with a 1/8 inch machete, I am not sure the added width does anything but cause me to have to carry extra weight. It is why I have avoided both the RD series knives from Ranger Ontario, the BK2, and the RC5. Not demonstrably stronger, and they weigh more.

what i am getting at is that i would like the rc6 with a little thicker blade it dose not have to be 1/4in thick but some added weight would be nice for chopping limbs off and i really think that the rc5 new kaydex sheath is a lot nicer than the rc6 split zitell sheath.

can you mount molly locks on the rc5 sheath in the horizontal position? say across your lower back belt line?

what do you think about the rat pack for the rc6 is it ez to re sheath the blade? any one have experience with one worth? it to comber some?

whats your opinion on the belt clip that comes with the rc5 good - bad -any one modify it? i really like the sheath. the retention screw adjustment is excellent. i don't think i would be a fan to the mettle belt clip. i think that i would modify it to perhaps a 1000 denier Cordura belt Lupe q.d. w/2snaps and Velcro or thinker leather belt Lupe wish it also had a kydex Lupe for feral rod and bungee to help retain it.

if the rc6 is so tough then why make the rc5 thicker?

The rc5 was designed to pry oneself out of a crashed helicopter. I suspect the RC6 would do fine at this, but in that situation, apparently you don't care so much about slicing as getting out of said pile of burning metal.

If you plan on using the knife in the woods, I don't think it's really possible to break an RC6. I'm not saying the five is a bad knife. But there is just no real benefit to making the 6 1/4 inch thick.

bigger just doesnt = better.

This is starting to get familiar.

i have yet to see much that an rc-6 cant do and even tho i dont love longer blades im being slowly drawn towards an rc-6 purchase, and if you really want something to chop with an axe or hawk will out perform a knife 95% of the time

hi, i was concerned at first about the thinner blade on the rc6 but after using the crap out of it both camping and around the farm i'm no longer worried. sucker takes a beating without a whimper. as for the sheath i really like it, i didn't much at first then the molle backs came out and man what a difference turns it into the most useable and flexible sheath i've had.

take it easy

thanks rickety cricket, i guess i am just going to have to get the rc6 then. and the rc3 and izula to.

Because it was designed to the specifications of and with a lot of input given by a group of escape & evasion instrutors. The ESEE5 is an overkill tank of a knife.
If you feel you have to have a 1/4" thick knife, you might consider getting one, but the only thing it really excells at over the ESEE6 is its ability to absorb scary amounts of punishment. (and the -6 is no slouch at that, either)
