RE: ATR new vs. old...

Back to the original question...I stopped into my local dealer today with the uncontrollable urge to buy a new knife. I'd been intending to purchase a large Sebenza (okay, I was "shopping under the influence" of posts in BladeForums), but didn't (I know, call me crazy) like the way the handle felt or the frame-lock "unlocked". I played with every Sebenza they had and couldn't fall in love.

I'd read the posts here about the ATR (thinking...hmmm titanium frame, S30V blade, I love my Calypso Jr...) and saw that they had both the titanium and stainless models.

My thoughts: the stainless feels "slicker"; this is both in the feel of the handle as well as the ease of opening and unlocking the blade. It's just a lot softer in the push to open the compression lock bar. The construction on both models (multiple examples of each) felt/looked great. Other than that, the two models felt fairly similar.

What did I do? Well, I've got this thing (again probably "under the influence") for S30V, and, as I stated, I was in the mood for a titanium handle, so I bought the Ti version.

At the least, it made me feel a whole lot better about not falling for the princess I'd been seeking :D !

Peace,
Neil

I was really impressed with the SS ATR. It is one slick opening knife!. It opens as smoothly as the USA made Spyderco lockbacks like the Native and Chinook. I have a Yojimbo on hold but i don't really want it now because of the new ATR. I hope the folks at Grand Prairie don't get mad if I switch. :footinmou

The Titan version was double hollow ground, but will be changing to double flat grind on the next run.

Hi Mr. Glesser, when will be the next run ATR available?
Thanx.

I'd have to agree with those saying the SS-handled model is the smoother-opening of the two. I've tried a demo model Ti ATR at the local knife shop (plenty of folks trying it, so well broken-in). Out of the box, my new SS ATR put it to shame. I had to tighten the pivot screw so no one could say it was a gravity knife.

Best regards.
