I have a small damascus "patch knife" that has the damascus pattern blackened (etched??). In sharpening, and using the blade, some of the "black" has come off, & I wonder if there is a "handy-man" way of re-doing it?? (I am not a knife-maker, but am familiar with some of the tools & methods of black-powder gun-smithing)
Would "cold bluing work for something like this??)
I appreciate any help..........

I have a small shop knife that I use in my knifemaking that I made out of my damascus. Every once in a while I'll light sand it to clean up scratches, etc. from my use. I then dip a cuetip into my 1 part ferric chloride to 3 parts water solution and quickly run it over the blade to bring the etch back out. I mask off the bolsters to protect them. It works for me.
