I had a Manix about a year ago and quicky traded it because I did not like it at the time. I just got another one because someone was selling a slightly used one at a really good price so I couldn't pass it up. I wanted to give it another chance based mostly on my recent high opinion of the D'Allera Rescue. The D'Allera showed me that there is a place for a large folder.
Let me just say that the Manix has started to impress me now in a way that it didn't impress me before. I guess I know what to expect out of it and I know its limitations now. It is not an EDC like I was hoping when I got my first one. It is a knife that you carry when you want to carry a serious working knife. If I were going into the woods, this would be the knife I would take with me. Until now, it was alway the Para that I took when I needed a serious no nonsense folder but now the Manix gets the nod. I will not be getting a DP D'Allera now that I have the Manix. I can see that the flat ground blade will out preform the Hollow ground blade of the D'allera so there is no point to downgrade.
The Manix is very comfortable in the hand as well. It feels like I am squeezing a lump of clay in my hand and it has conformed to my fingers. I feel that I can get a great solid grip on the Maxin and with the Choil, I can choke up on it if I want to do some more delicate work. I don't use the choil as much some people do, I would say I only use it about 5% of the time but when you need it, it is nice to have. The Para is a dream for those that like the choil type grip.
I had intended on buying the Manix as a bug out bag knife but after getting it, I like it too much to sock away in an emergency bag where it will hardly ever get used. This is just too good of a knife not to use.
