I had a Manix about a year ago and quicky traded it because I did not like it at the time. I just got another one because someone was selling a slightly used one at a really good price so I couldn't pass it up. I wanted to give it another chance based mostly on my recent high opinion of the D'Allera Rescue. The D'Allera showed me that there is a place for a large folder.

Let me just say that the Manix has started to impress me now in a way that it didn't impress me before. I guess I know what to expect out of it and I know its limitations now. It is not an EDC like I was hoping when I got my first one. It is a knife that you carry when you want to carry a serious working knife. If I were going into the woods, this would be the knife I would take with me. Until now, it was alway the Para that I took when I needed a serious no nonsense folder but now the Manix gets the nod. I will not be getting a DP D'Allera now that I have the Manix. I can see that the flat ground blade will out preform the Hollow ground blade of the D'allera so there is no point to downgrade.

The Manix is very comfortable in the hand as well. It feels like I am squeezing a lump of clay in my hand and it has conformed to my fingers. I feel that I can get a great solid grip on the Maxin and with the Choil, I can choke up on it if I want to do some more delicate work. I don't use the choil as much some people do, I would say I only use it about 5% of the time but when you need it, it is nice to have. The Para is a dream for those that like the choil type grip.

I had intended on buying the Manix as a bug out bag knife but after getting it, I like it too much to sock away in an emergency bag where it will hardly ever get used. This is just too good of a knife not to use.

Your wise to have picked one up again! The manix really is an awesome knife, the more I use it the more I love it! And yes the manix is very very comfortable in the hand. Its been my favorite knife ever since I got it.

I second that ;)

The Manix is just one of those Spydercos that is a must have. I have caught myself several times comparing my mini manix and manix and trying to decide which one I like best and it always ends up a draw. The mini isn't that much smaller than the full size, and definitely not a small knife. I like the deep carry clip on the mini better and the size of the manix better because of ergonomics. I've tried to convince myself to pick one to keep and sell the other but there's just no way I'm giving either one up.

I saw a knife test on one of the forums recently that showed the Manix standing heads and shoulders above some very expensive custom knives. It's a knife that begs to be used. And dang it just looks good too.

Slatt said right!
But, for sure, I bought a DDP too (e.g. the BB lock is awesome, good to play with it ;)) - BUT I'll carry my Mini Manix in the future, no questions why. :D

If you do a search for reviews about large folders you will find a review from British Blades Forum where the Manix soundly kicked the Sebbie and Striders butts.

My favorite Spyderco is the CF Military model or the 93mm Rescue model. both easy EDC's and true cutting machines.

I read that article, it was pretty good. I trusted that what they said was fact and not opinion.

My favorite Spyderco is the G-10 Police in PE. I am looking for a user to EDC but for some reason they are nearly impossible to find. They were not discontinued all that long ago and I know of a few places that still sell them new but I have a NIB one that I can't bring myself to use. I also have the SE version which is just as nice.

Kgriggs, who do you know that has them new? Is it a local shop? I only ask because I used to live in Fort Wayne and still travel there often for business. I would love to get my hands on a NIB G-10 police.

Hello,
The knife shop at the mall has at least one PE and one SE version for sale. They may have more but that is what I saw on display. I think they are about $170 though. Even with it being discontined, that is a little high. I see them on E-bay once in a while for about $150.

I have a NIB one that I may have to break down and start using if I can't find a user for sale or trade somewhere. I hate to do it but the whole reason I love the knife is because it is one of the very best designs I have ever seen in a folder. It was made to be used and it is such a good package that it would be a shame not to use it.

I just got another one after giving my first away. Then I found out they changed the screws that hold the clip, they're not phillips anymore, but Torx. Anyone know which size and where I can find them? I want to change it, but most hardware stores around here only go down to T10, and these look like 6's or so....

Thanks!

I think its a T6 for the clip screws. I picked up a cheap set of Torx bits at AutoZone for seven or eight bucks, I don't remember exactly. It had the T6,T7,T8, and T9, which covers most of the knives I have. Hope that helps.

I picked a torx driver up at the local Home Depot for around 6 dollars. It came with the following sizes: T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T15. I'm sure one of those would fit it. Click here for pictures.

Thanks to both of you, I'll have to go give either of those stores another looking over. Fortunately, we have both close by.

The manix is an awesome knife.

Late jumping-in on this thread, but I've just made a mini-Manix part of the EDC. I like it much more than the full-sized model (don't really know why, but the mini just "fits" me best.

It's hard to bump a Ti ATR from the EDC role, but this knife has done it.

I heartily disagree with those who say the manix is too big for EDC. I EDC mine, and it is barely noticable. It weighs less than the Buck 110 I carried for years way back when, and outcuts just about everything. Goes through cardboard like a dream. The manix is a slicing machine. And a very nice EDC.

I like my Manix so well I decided today to order the Mini Manix. NGK has it on its way already.

The Mini-Manix rocks!!! You WILL be very, very happy withyour Mini-Manix!!

I just returned from a week long hunting trip in Canada. Not knowing what I'd want to carry the most, I packed a Spyderco Manix, Lum tanto folder, and full size Calypso in my checked bag. Guess which one got slipped into my pocket everyday? Yep, the Manix. Get this - I watched my hunting guide struggle cutting some rope with his no-name folder and then later in the hunt when he was about to use the same knife to gut an animal I said, 'hey, try this one' and handed him my Manix. He said he'd never had used a better, sharper knife than my Manix.

I just have to add to the "all hail the Manix" thread. I love everything about both the full size and the "mini". I would love to see a full size without a distally tapered blade though, as I have occassion to pry with a knife at times, and don't feel comfortable doing it with the tip of the manix. Don't get me wrong though...I love the manix.
