Can you re-etch Damascus after the knife is finished.

I ask because i have a fairly heavy user that the Damascus is more or less scratched off in spots or rubbed off around where it comes in contact with the sheath. I didn't etch it deep enough originally.

Thanks

Yes you can. Just go through the same steps as etching it in the first place. I wouldn't want to do with a wooden handle attached, though.

Make sure it's super clean, too.

Your friends are tape and nail polish. If you are just doing the blade portion use tape to protect the guard or bolster area and use nail polish on area that you don't want etched. Someone suggested colored(red) so you can make sure you did not put some accidentally on the blade. Suspend blade in etchant and support so all the knife doesnt go into the etchant. Time and then clean off.

Ya, tape up the handle well with black electrical tape. Do a good job with that, then clean the blade well and dunk it. If you can't get tape on the junction of the blade and the guard the fingernail polish will work well.

sounds good also sounds like i need to stop by and get some more electrical tape so i dont mess up the burl handle.
Thanks

For small touch up I wrap a bit of cotton on a plastic toothpick and dab and blend.
