So, I want to turn a C.S. Laredo Bowie into a sub-hilt for boar hunting/general big knife stuff, and I'm making an attempt to do it on a GI budget. Can y'all suggest some people to contact for me to make this happen?

I contacted one guy already, and his quote was pretty high (not that I'm saying he's unreasonable, it's just more than I expected). Thanks for the help.

Most makers have an issue with re-handling other manufacturer's knives.

A couple of red flags in your question, first as said, most makers do not want to remake other maker's knives, second, the one quote you got was pretty high , which tells me you probably want someone to do 5-10 hours of work for 20 bucks. I am not familiar with the knife you are talking about, but my suggestion as a craftsman, (and you did post on a craftsman's list where all sorts of "how-to" info is exchanged, is that since you know what your desired end result is, you do as detailed a drawing as you can, scan it into a 500 pixel wide jpeg, photograph your knife, also as a 500 pixel wide jpeg, and post to this list to find out how to do it yourself. Then you have the satisfaction of having crafted exactly what you want.

Some of the issues a maker might have with your idea is the unknown tang structure, current backlog, and the fact that subhilt designs involve a lot of work. To tell the truth I personally wouldn't want a subhilt on a Laredo as the large knife would put a lot of torque on your index finger when chopping. If you can find someone to do the work I'd expect to hear quotes that excede the knife's original cost for quality work. Something you could consider is doing it yourself. It would require a lot of time but the tools would be a few files, a hand drill(or drill press), and some sandpaper.

No, I wasn't asking for the work to be done for $20, but thanks so much for your condecension, very helpful.

I didn't know about the embellishment section, thanks for the heads up.

I already have a Black Bear Classic, and love the whole sub-hilt design, but I want one with a bowie-style blade.

Some guys have said that about "torque" on the finger, but I'm pretty sure it's not true. I have put my BBC through alot of crap, and it's never done anything but give me more control. If this project pans out, I'll let you know for sure. We'll never know until it's tried out.

I never thought about the aspect of working on another guy's(manufacturer's) knife, but that does shed a bit of light on the whole thing.

Thanks for the help.
