Re heat treat 01?

My knife failed the file test. Can I re heat treat and quench without any issues?

You should anneal first, so you know where your starting from. Then proceed with heat treating. Here's a good site which gives sound info.. http://ajh-knives.com/metals.html

If you normalized before you heated it up and quenched it you should be able to heat it up again and quench. Your tempering process should not have added any stress to the blade. Some smiths suggest multiple quenches for grain refinement. First, determine why your blade didn't harden in the first place. Make sure, for your file test, that you do not have a layer of decarburized steel on top of the hardened steel.
