Re-heat treating a knife

I once had a certain production knife with a S35VN blade that was heat treated to 58-59. Today I was thinking back on it and was wondering what that knife would have been like at 61Rc. This got me to thinking about re-heat treating stainless. Is it just like doing an initial heat treat, or is there some different type of procedure to follow?

If it is already a finished blade, it would be easier to make a new one than to re-do the HT.

S35VN does well at Rc58-59. For kitchen slicers, I push it up to Rc 60-61. The average user probably wouldn't notice the difference. The biggest difference is how hard to sharpen it gets as the hardness goes up.

Thanks. What hardness (max) would you heat treat a hunter to? I was thinking of trying 61Rc.
