Re-scaling a kopa

The "unknown" brown wood in some of your earlier photos looks like bocote. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it.

You need to be sure to cover the metal bolsters while sanding - You can carefully fit tape on the metal, but that will still make it hard to sand the wood to the joint area. The solution that would work is to try to get as much sanding done on the wood surface as you can before actually using the epoxy on it to glue it in place.
 
it is bocote, i found the post it note that fell off of it. thanks for the advice on the sanding, someone else mentioned to just doble side tape the wood in and sand as usual and then polish the bolsters with the wood taken out, then glue them in. i just got the 2000 grit sandpaper so i want to see how the bolsters look after i use it on them.
 
Ok, i just put some linseed oil on it, i am letting it dry before i put the clip back on. it gave me enough time to take a few pics. they aren't the best, i am a better knife mechanic than a photographer;). i went with the brushed bolsters look on this one. The wood is redwood burl.
