Well I'm taking the "plunge"! Im going to order the KMG Belt grinder. :D I currently have a 10 inch Coote. I will not have room for both, so I was wondering if the 10inch wheel on the Coote will fit the KMG? If so I will order a different wheel size fro the KMG. With that said what are the recomendations for another wheel? what size wheel is generally used to taper tangs of a Full tang Knife......this is to hollow prior to tapering on the flat platen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sunny

The contact wheel is mounted to the tooling arm via a threaded spindle shaft. How is it mounted to the Coote?

Also, the 10" wheel from beaumont is $308. Since you cant have two, would it be worth trying to sell the Coote complete or not?

Well I believe without checking it mounts over a 5/8 bolt and is secured with a nut....I was wondering how big the whole was in the tooling ar of the KMG. If i cant find a way to use the Coote 10inch wheel, I think I would consider selling it.

I think the hole in the tooling arm is 1/2" - I'm away from the shop and can't check right now, but I'm pretty sure.

And I think 1/2" is more or less standard - you'll need to double check. If not, you can drill and tap a new hole in the arm - they are just steel (or aluminum)

Once you know, just call Rob at Beaumont Metalworks - he is very helpful.

Have a KMG and instead of paying for the heavy costly new tooling arms for ea new wheel. Use a piece of 1/8 thick square tube and drill a hole thru it the size for the wheel. Go to HD and get a Bolt the proper size and use a Allthread connector as the spacer to the wheel

Thanks for the replies, I looked at it today and it was a 1/2 inch bolt.....so it looks like it will work or at least be an easy modification. I really want to have a couple options for wheel sizes when hollow grinding, so I was originally hoping that someone else had done the same thing that I was wanting to do. I didnt see that reply so im going to take my chances and get the 8in KMG with the 2hp variable speed motor:D....If that dont work out, I will probabaly sell it to buy a 10 inch wheel.
