I got 4 knives ready to get some scales, which I'm planning on doing soon (tommorow?). Tell me what you think and if you have Any recommendation for scale materiel. Being a new maker I only have natural, red and green Micarta and a block of Curley maple. Thanks a lot and I'll post pictures when they are finished! Sorry for the bad pics. What do you think of the stonewash, I think it might need to go.

In terms of handle material, I think the third one down would be the biggest candidate for the Curly Maple, The rest will look good in Micarta. That is, assuming that your going to be making the scales with materials you have on hand. And I would go for a satin on the Micarta-scaled knives and a higher gloss, Matte on the Curly Maple.

I was thinking the same thing. But if it didn't have to be what I had on hand, what would you recommend then.

Well, it's your personal choice what material you want, but on the third one down I'd stick with Maple, or try some curly koa, they're both beautiful woods.

For the rest of them, I think they'd look good in either G10 or Micarta, that's your choice, really.

Yes I know I just wanted someone else opinion;). I'm really liking the green Micarta and I'm too scared to try g10 :D I love koa as well but it's expensive. Thanks

Actually, I feel that G10 is easier to work than Micarta is, but that's just my experience with it.
If you have a respirator and good air circulation you should be fine.

um i say that give th third one some black micarta/ bocote/ denim micarta and then wrap it up and send it to me

I do have a good respirator, full face with fermeldhyde filters when working with micrta. Air surculation not so much..but I use a shop vac to suck in a lot of dust. You think I would be ok?

You would be perfectly fine.
If you have the option, work it outside.
And note that shop safety equipment makes a good investment.
All that dust will catch up to you in the future unless you get some good safety equipment.
But for now, you'll be just fine.

Haha glad you like it, it feels real good now :D I don't know of any other knife like it! :) just needs an edge and a little more polish on the handles and it will be in the mail headed to az.... :D not.
