I've been in the market for a big chopper for a while, and it seems the writing's on the wall since everyone I ask points me to Busse! With all the models and variants and so forth it's a bit daunting for a newbie like me, however I think I've basically found the blade I'm looking for on Mojo's site:

Now if anyone can tell me exactly what I'm looking at, I'll happily put a post on the exchange and wait (patiently no doubt) for the offers to come rolling in.

Thanks for your help hogs, and I look forward to joining you at the trough someday! :)

Man, wouldn't mind that one either :p but it's never been produced. That was a prototype several Blade shows ago. Can't get one of those because there just aren't any floating around :(

You CAN get one just like it but with the CBT (Corrugated Bevel Technology). Many people don't like the look of it because of the ribbed type look, but it makes it lighter and stronger than it would have been if flat ground.

You want the best chopper ever, good taste:thumbup: Even made Field and Streams list of top 20 knives ever made.

It's a FBM(fusion battle mistress) you have a pic of.

LE- was tiger-satin and retailed for $697 (my favorite)
CG- many combo's, retail was $397...I think
FFBM- was like .320 and to heavy IMO, sold at BCS for about same as CG

All of these should be on the exchange if you look back a few pages. If not the'll be some show up soon. But get it now, as they will only go up in value.

Here's some pics. This one's a CGFBM (Combat Grade Fusion Battle Mistress) with magnum scales:

Here's a Fat FBM (FFBM) at around .320'', a CGFBM with magnum scales, a (Limited Edition at around .320'') and a Battle Mistress Ergo.

Here's a FFBM that I stripped the coating off of:

Fusion Battle Mistress is sweet.

Post on the Wanted to buy forum instead of the exchange.

You can get similar ones on the exchange right now.
The one your looking at only differences is the logo and that weird looking black micarta.

Ken, I think the CG started at $395 before the upgrade options and shipping.

Thanks Paul:thumbup: Yep it was $397 before options. Don't know where in the heck I came up with $497:confused: I knew better than that:(

:D the one I'm looking forward to is the new one...the NMFBM :D I'll bet it's going to be an anorexic one!!!!

For the life of me I can't figure out what that one will be:confused:

You may be right! What ever it is, I do hope it has a Satin option:thumbup:

You could have gotten something very similar last night, the 2008 FBM SE is probably very close to the prototype, full flat ground and not too thick, but it's pretty expensive too.

You could try to send an email now but who knows if they have any left over?

Oh yes... definitely get the Mistress!!!

Here a link to a recent thread with some details about the various versions of the Fusion Battle Mistress (FBM)
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=565036

The one you have in your original post is the proto from Blade 2004.
She was never sold... and is buried deep somewhere in the Busse compound.
From what I'm told, she was for display only, never heat treated, and will never be sold. :(

Good luck in your quest for one... they are AWESOME fo sho!!!
Get one (or many :D ) while you can... still plenty running around.

Either the Battle Mistress or Steel Heart would serve you well. As has been noted, some model variations are thicker than others. Even the lowly .25" SHBM does a pretty good job at chopping. ;):D

You made the right choice by choosing a FBM. Now you just have to decide which version :D If you have the money then I would say get a FBMLE. It is the most beautiful and highest performing FBM from the factory.

The FFBM's are the heaviest and the best bang for the buck. The CGFBM is the lighter version but will easily hold its own in performance. I rank the CGFBM right into the FBMLE category in performance when a nice convex edge is put on.

FBMs are amazing knives- I'm lucky enough to have 3. FBMs are the AC-130s of the knife world- overwhelming, bordering-on-gonzo power! My favorite, by far, is the LE. However, if you want one, it's gonna cost you. They seem to be hovering right around the $1000 mark on the exchange now. And once they hit $1000, I doubt they'll ever go down from there. I prefer the LE because of the full-flat grind, they are the fattest of all the FBMs, and the satin is very nice.

The FFBM is almost as good. The only thing "wrong" with the FFBM is that it's saber ground, rather than full-flat. Which really isn't a big deal. (the "fat flat fusion" or FFBM that is used sometimes to refer to it is a misnomer, IMO). You can get a FFBM for around $500- $550 right now, with little difficulty.

Not that there's anything wrong with the CG, mind you. It's still way more knife than just about anything else ever made. But it's almost a half-measure when compared to its fatter, heavier sisters. You want fast and light? Get a Jackhammer. You want raw chopping brutality, and the satisfaction of knowing that you have the best big knife ever made, and that may ever be made? Get a FBMLE.

Very well said, I agree with all of that, the ffbmle reigns supreme. So Ive heard, I cant bring myself to use mine:o. The cgfbm in my opinion is a great compromise when considering the ffbm and ffbm le. The ffbm is much heavier than the cgfbm, and in turn a better chopper, and the ffbm le is super expensive. If you can only get one bm get a ffbm, but a cgfbm is more suited for those that actually want to take the thing on extended hikes/camping trips, my user bm is a cgfbm, chops with the best of them. Get both!:D

Thanks for all the responses guys! The LE is a beauty but I have a thing for black finishes, plus for my first Busse I should probably hold back a bit to make sure I come back for more!

So if I were to put an ad in Want To Buy, it sounds like I should ask for a FFBM blade with black crinkle, regular size black Micarta, penetrator tip, does that sound about right? If I can find the blade, is it possible to send it back to the factory for a new tip and scales, and if so what kind of turnaround time and cost would I be looking at?

Thanks again for all the enthusiastic responses guys, I can't wait to get one of these bad boys and start chopping!
