REAL Benchmade nerds...Griptillian info

I have a few griptilians...if you want the best bang for your buck, buy a standard 154cm griptilian, or mini griptilian, with the thumb stud, no serrations. Pick which size you want, based off ease of carry, and blade length.

My EDC is a mini griptilian. 154cm takes a keen edge, holds it well, and is easy to sharpen. It should cost you around 60 bucks or so.

Start there...anything else is just icing on the cake, and doesn't make much if a difference at all.

Here is an option for you.:D I bought the gold class Grip with carbon fiber scales and a M4 blade for $265. Then I waited for the new Ritter grip with a M4 blade, got it for $165. I put the Ritter blade in the carbon fiber scales. I put the gold class blade in the Ritter scales and sold it for $125. I have $305 in this Grip which is a bit pricey but it is a sweet knife.

Save a few more dollars and get a Seb off that price!

Come on man, not another 'Buy a Seb' post. The OP specifically asks for factual information (not opinion) on the Grip models, if you don't have what he is asking for then DON'T post. Save your post in a separate 'Buy a Seb' thread, please.

Nice!!!!! :D

I think Bear Claw wins the Griptilian Nerd award.

And his collection is much more extensive than mine (556 - 440C, 556 - 154CM, 558 - S30V)

i think he was just pointing out that instead of buying a production knife you could save a bit and get what some would call a midtech, and not to start an argument but i think a slab of titanium will last longer than a small spring, i.e. my sebenza is 5, five, years old and hasnt broken, BM 530 broke in a year.

and that CF M4 grip looks cool, but what kind of warranty does it have?

EDIT: and there is also an M2 ritter grip.

Gundude, your experience of using your seb and your questioning of the warranty of the CF in the M4 grip have no bearing on the OP's question either.

well not to argue but i didnt see the M2 ritter grip mentioned. and i was just giving my experience. no need to get mad at people for nothin.

Wow, sweet build

I recently got the Gold edition but the Ritter M4 is sold out (they only have the mini now)... I ordered the stonewashed Mk1 but I've no plans to disassemble the gold, but I will be looking into either Wilkins or Cuscadi grips

For now, I'm thoroughly enjoying the gold "as is" :D

I need a clear and concise breakdown of the Doug Ritter, Mini-Grip, and Griptillian models...I have seen a ton of variations, and as such, as many different monikers for the unique options.

I would gladly appreciate a list of:

Maker - Ritter or Benchmade
Model
Size (small or large)
Steel (154CM, S30V, M4...what else?)
Handle (Ive seen metal and polymer)
Opening mechanism (stud or oval)

I want to purchase one of these knives, but there are so many options its confusing to figure out whats available, affordable, etc...

Pictures would be outstanding.

Thanks to anyone who edjumicates me :D

If you go to Benchmade's site they have all the variations.

Here are some old photos. I no longer own any of these Grips. They still are great knives IMO:

Here's a pic that demonstrates the different blade profiles:558 Mini RSK Mk1, 555HG Mini Griptilian, 556 Mini Griptilian

Their full sized equivalents are 552 RSK Mk1, 550HG Griptilian, 551 Griptilian.

Very helpful, thanks

So which knife (profile) do you prefer / use the most and why? I'm still learning the ropes, still a bit fuzzy on the benefits of i.e. hollow vs. flat grind and so forth... :o
