Here in the Great Dismal Swamp of coastal Virginia we don't worry too much bout the sketters, they only drink an ounce or two; now the horseflies,thats a differnet thing, they don't stop till they get done with the marrow.
Horseflies suck blood in a way much different then skeeters.
They have a scissor/saw like mechanism that they use to cut the flesh. They then use their labial mothparts to feed on the blood. They also have an anticoagulant in their saliva.
I've seen it under a low power microscope! Its like a kid eating spaggetti without any arms... hilarious..and painful!
