(Not exactly a survival situation)
Battle Mistress-->2 winter camping trips-->chopped wood for fire-->used a short log to pound on the spine to aid in chopping-->no holding back-->wanted to see blade snap -->temperatures dropped to about 5 degrees Fahrenheit at night and rose to about 15 degrees in the day-->also whittled sticks to roast some kielbasa over a fire-->lent knife to camping buddies so that they could gather more firewood-->dug out tent stakes stuck in ice with same knife-->edge emerged still able to shave after all that, albeit roughly-->no damage to knife, just a few scratches and a small pitted rust spot (left some water and sap on uncoated blade overnight).
