Bought off ebay for $90. I've only had one other spyderco, but this does not seem as quality as my Manix 2.

I'm looking on how to attach pictures but can't figure it out. Any help on that would be appreciated.

Use imgur for the pics. The only way you will actually be able to tell.

For peace of mind I usually only buy off reputable dealers. Avoids these moments of doubt.

Easiest thing to look for is the liners. On the non-lock side there should be two drilled out holes to skeletonise it.

If you see only one, you know it's not genuine.

If you see that the liner is drilled out appropriately, you still need to look at other things. There are good YouTube videos if you search that explain more about the boxes, foam padding, fasteners, lanyard hole bushing, finishing of the scales...

Honestly, I'd just buy from a reputable dealer. Still do check it, though. If you get a fake (perhaps a "return" that wasn't seen as a fake), you can still return it, if the dealer has any integrity. Just IMO.

I was able to send spyderco pictures and they verified it was fake. I have bought multiple knives off of ebay and amazon as well as other products and this is my first bad one.
Yes $30 was worth it, because if you do get a fake, ebay takes care of you. I will get my money back and try again.

I wasn't able to get a hold of Spyderco yesterday, so I was looking for help.

If ebay wouldn't back their purchases, then no $30 would not be worth it. I'm covered so, if I think I see a good deal, I'll try again.

How about you just pay the normal $120ish price tag at any number of reputable online dealers so you don't have to "try again". You'll have the (genuine) knife you want. End of story.

Or if for some reason you can budget beyond $90 then try the exchange here and pick up a like new one.

I don't get why people would waste their time on possible (probable) fakes from shit sites like eBay. It's just moronic.

Yeah , yeah , my opinion.

eBay is a sketchy place to buy knives. There are some real ones out there but there's also a TON of fake ones. They even say it's a fake knife, but you have to read the description carefully. Amazon isn't nearly as bad as eBay when it comes to fakes.

But you should be able to post the pictures by using the URL's. When you're posting look at the picture of a tree, and click that. Then paste the URL of the photo(s) you wanna use. You'll have to upload the pictures to a photo sharing site/app. I use imgur.

Sorry to hear about the fake though.. That's never a good thing.

Try again from a reputable dealer. I don't know about you but my time is money. That $30 is money well spent versus the time it takes to figure out and return a fake. Or you can buy used here on the exchange. Much less likely to get a fake here than fleebay and you are still covered by paypal.

Solution: don't buy Spydercos from eBay or Amazon. Give your money to a reputable knife dealer.

There are a few reputable dealers on eBay. You just need to know who they are. But I would agree, in general, don't buy from the random guy.

By trying to save $30, you got swindled out of $90. You will far better off buying from one of the many dealers on BF. ;)

All the advice above about fake Spydies is invaluable. At one time, I probably was more of a skeptic also, and would do anything to save a buck. But now after having having owned many quality Spyders, I would hate to have to deal with (or even worry about) fakes. Because Spyderco is so popular, there are simply too many counterfeits out there. And the real thing IS that good.

Now for your photo question, this was one of the things about the forum that frustrated me too when I was a new member. I now use tinypic.com. I think it's owned by photobucket (and there are many like it). Tinypic is free to set up an account. Then you simply upload your pics there, then copy and paste the direct image link, which includes the html image tags. Even with a paid membership here, most of the time it's still just as easy to use a photobucket like account, and keep all your photo's consistent and in one place. Then the images you post here, are just image links to the actual photo on your photo sharing account.

Like this.... Here's my Spyder family pic. Originally uploaded to tinypic once, last year. And here, it doesn't take the bandwidth/storage of uploading the image here, every time I want to use it. Just the link text copied from the tinypic site.

I doubt that.

Also, is your time not worth anything?

How much time to do you have invested in buying the fake, confirming it's fake, shipping it back, trying again...?

That was exactly my point. I'll pay the extra $30 (more like $10-$15 if you buy from the exchange) to avoid all the time and energy going into to dealing with scummy people who sell counterfeits.
