Real or Fake?

Get us some daylight pictures of both sides. I think it's real. I have a couple same model benchmades with logo slightly moved around. My 558DLCM4s come to mind. First run and second run had the logo in different places. Lots of people take annodizing off their knives, he probably drilled the hole for a lanyard or to move the clip or something. Did the lady from benchmade actually see the knife in hand, or just the pictures?

I believe that the OP mentioned somewhere in one of the posts in this thread that the lady at Benchmade only had the the pictures as her only guide for forming her opinion on the knife's authenticity.

She only had the pictures that I posted. The knife is in the mail to me right now. But here's the latest:

It's a Benchmade with anodized removed and two safety handles. The questions is, Why two safety handles? I think it's a Frankenknife composed of two 32's--it explains the second safety handle. There is a guy on another forum who says he thinks it might be his and he linked to the ads.

It's so cool being able to track everything down.

Got it today. If this ain't legit, I don't care because it's totally kick ass! I still can't fully explain the extra hole, but it's clearly a Benchmade and the clip and liners are deannodized titanium--which I prefer, anyway. I can't explain the hole because wouldn't, when you take a handle from the right side and move it to the left side, you also have to turn the handle backward. That would make the hole face in the other direction.

The seller was cool throughout. Would absolutely buy from this seller again. All in all a great experience. Learned a lot about this type of knife.

Now, I just have to make sure I don't cut myself.

Glad it worked out.

You need to ask yourself a question: What motivation does the Benchmade employee have for lying to you? Any work that may or not be covered does not come out of her pockets. They have always been top notch with their customer service, so it would surprise me to see them deliberately mislead you. Now, the seller, on the other hand, is selling you something, and may wither truly believe what he's telling you and be wrong, or be trying to pass off a fake as real and hiding behind a feedback rating. Good people change sometimes when they need money.
Just because you WANT to believe it is real it still won't change reality.
In the end, if you like the knife, does it matter?

First of all, some random person who picks up the phone at benchmade probably doesn't know 1/10th about the tiny details of their knives than your average, forum going bm fan. Second, nobody is saying she was lying, she just couldn't confirm it as legit with the evidence offered to her.

I can say most of the benchmade customer service staff do not know every detail, and crook of a knife. I've often had to correct them on petty details.
The only company that has been able to answer every question has been CRK to be honest.

It honestly sounds to me like the lady was not sure, so she didn't want to confirm. Perfectly understandable and right thing to do.

Yup, that's how it is in any industry. I worked at a tire shop for a few years. I knew a fair amount about a wide range of tires, but you get the guy who road races his car and spends the rest of his time researching car parts, and I'm certainly not going to try and correct him on anything. We get paid to help most average people, beyond that the fanatics can help themselves :P
