Warning, I am not a licensed electrician. This work in progress is not intended as an instructional aid or instruction for anyone to use as a guide. It is for amusement only. Electric shock can kill. Always use the service of a qualified and licensed electrician for all electrical work.

I thought I would try something different today. I've been using my disc grinder more and more, and although it does not have a VFD or anything fancy like that, I want it to reverse. It's about 9:00 am here in the sunshine state. I'm going to update pictures as I go, rather than when I'm done for a real time WIP. Here's the grinder.

Here's the switch. This switch may be overkill, I've seen it done with a toggle switch mounted on the motor but I could not find reliable directions for that.

A little over 90 minutes in to it, got back from HD with some wire and fittings, drilled and tapped the column, mounted the switch.

Cool Erik! I see you at the bottom of this thread! Go do some more work so I can see how it turns out :D
I'm going to go do some grinding for a while and I'll come check it out.

I opened cover open and started pulling wires apart. I decided to edit the original post with a disclaimer:eek:

Watching closely, I have a similarly spec'd motor just waiting to be put to this kind of use. Where did you pick up that switch? I like clear, no confusion type controls on machines, and a big ol' reverse lever like that would be great to quickly see what direction it is in before you turn it on. Is that a center off type switch, BTW?

ETA: I just saw the pic of the opened up switch, and I guess it is a center off switch.
 
HD didn't have any six-strand 12ga so I ran some 12ga through water tight conduit which I had lying around.

I double checked my wiring diagram, now the hard part, fitting everything in the switch case......

(3 hours into it - I work slow)
 
Tested, then covers on, then tested again. Works like a champ. Just under 4 hours with a trip to the store. Here's a running picture.

After the new deck, this one will also get a momentary foot switch, just waiting for parts. I hope you saw something you liked. ;)

Nicely done. I may just pick up one of those switches and do the same thing for mine.

Sweet! You use blocks for grindng angles? Doesn't look like your deck is a tilting one.
