Anyone know where I can get a quality small sword that you could actually use in a sword fight?

you could use ANY sword in a fight... careful selection will make your chances of survival much higher, especially if your opponent has some sort of weapon

there are LOTS of good swords out there that are "usable"

What price range did you have in mind? For a grand, you could get the one i'm eyeing (Busse AK47). For around 1500 you could get the busse gladius which is one hell of a beater blade.

In the sub 300 range, Hanwei makes some nice offerings.

These days, I'd bring THIS to a sword fight:

If you mean a Small Sword or Court Sword....Kevin Cashen makes a superb one for about $4,000 that is as real as it gets.

Best Regards,

Why do you want it? Just for fun/collection? Or what? There are lots of different styles to consider.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'd like to get a traditional fencing / dueling / sword fighting small sword, the kind designed for thrusting which evolved from the rapier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_sword. The reason is that I'm building a time machine and I plan on travelling back to the mid to late 18th century. I'd like to bring a weapon with me, so a Busse AK47 or a gun would be out of place, I don't want to attract any unwanted attention. So the sword need not only look authentic, but would also need to be battle ready.

Thanks.

In that case I'd suggest just picking one up when you get there. It'll be more authentic. :D:D:D

Fortytwo makes a good point.

BTW - I'll take your dealers number before you hit the time machine. :D

You might try searching on this forum too. For instance, there's another thread on the same page right now that has what you might be looking for.

I won't have any money when I get there, I doubt they'll take Visa. So my question still stands, are there any reliable battle ready small swords out there? The Kevin Cashen site didn't look like there was anything available.

If you can get your hands on "The Rapier and the Small-Sword 1460-1820" by A.V.B. Norman you can have ElJay Erickson custom make any of them in there for you...
or you can go with something like from Arms and Armor http://www.armor.com/rapier069.html Hanwei also makes a couple of them and so does Del Tin http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=DT5181&name=Del+Tin+French+Small+Sword Colichemarde over at http://www.gggodwin.com/CartGenie/prod-7.htm depends on what your looking for...
