Realistic Pellet Gun

Myblade, I'm not saying it can't be done. I've done courses where 80% was done with a blue-gun. But as I said, if they are going to treat a real gun with respect, they will treat any gun with respect. If they are going to treat a toy gun like a toy, they don't suddenly get careful with a firearm. I'm also talking a sample size of a couple hundred.
Again, what you are saying is valid, but I don't think you are actually disagreeing with me.

That highlighted part is exactly my thinking. The way they treat the pellet gun is going to be the test they have to pass to move on. I will tell them this beforehand.

All I'm saying is I've watched people parrot back all the things they need to with the little gun, then after the first big boom and the adrenaline hits, it all goes out the window, and they start channeling Rambo. I wouldn't tell them at all that they are being tested. Just say that you expect them to be careful no matter what. Do it how you want to do it. Just stand behind them and keep your hands ready.

In all honesty I wouldn't take anyone who wasn't serious about gun safety. If they can't take it seriously then they have no business handling a firearm.
+1 Gazillion.

I've been an instructor a long time. The rare times I found someone unsafe and too macho to respond to correction, I've ended my instruction and relationship with him.

I've been known to say females are easier to teach, and, by and large, I still believe that. For the most part ego isn't a problem so they can admit there are things they can learn; they aren't competitive so would rather improve their own skills vs prove they are better than another; and they can take constructive instruction/correction better (without sulking). I've found more men just the opposite when it comes to firearms instruction.

Re: teaching females being easier. I 100% agree. My theory is that men (in general) as we grow up we watch G.I. Joe, war movies, play cops and robbers, and have a these deep rooted emotions that we already know how to handle a gun. So when it comes time to learn the real thing at a later age for some the machismo kicks in. Being told how to do something that in their own mind they already know how to do just doesn't cut it.

Pellet or air soft guns are a great way to start no matter what.
