Reality Check

Totaly agree with the OP. There is definetly a niche here that's not filled very good IMO.

The Spyderco Air is one, CRK Mnandi is another, I know there are others but we need more knives that covers:

- One hand opening

- Slim profile and not to thick

- 3 to 4" closed lenght

- Super steels, preferably(to me) stainless

- 2 to 3" blade lenght

- Nice low riding clip

- Thin bladestock

Ideally a nice EDC knife is more or less unoticeable until you need to use it.

Native 5 LW meets those requirements for me, minus the clip. Light and small.

I did get a custom deep carry clip, although right now, I carry the knife in my watch pocket of my jeans. Unnoticeable to me.

I think I solved the problem! Just keep on carrying a knife, any knife with a clip. After a while, you will have a new "pocket" in your jeans where you can put your knife! That should leave your whole RF pocket open! :D.

Looks like the bidirectional got the better of those jeans!

In regards to how much a knife gets used.

Over the last year, I have been on a knife purchasing bender. Due to this, I am eating healthier. Thanks Spyderco. Let me explain.

Had a knife in my pocket since an early age. Didn't think twice about it. Used it when needed... very little. But always there.

So, as with anything new, I want to use my new toys/tools... as much as possible... all the time. Yes, playing with them takes up most of the use time. But I want to cut. Especially at work, since I tend to spend a lot of time there. There are only so many boxes I can shred; only so many pieces of paper I can test the edge on.

Food prep! Used to eat an apple, pear, etc. now and then, peel an orange once in a while. Not anymore! Everything gets cut into pieces. No fruit is off limits. And as such, I am bringing more fruit to work, and eating a lot more of it. And, cutting more.

Go figure...
Isn't it cool when things incidentally work out to include beneficial side effects?!
☺

I can't stand excessively wide folders. I tolerate length better than weight, weight better than width and that one better than bulk, my perfect folder in those 4 aspects is the Pacific Salt (which happens to be the one that gets more pocket time)

that's the reason I switched my Spyderhawk (which was too wide for most of my off-work pockets) for a Tasman, same shape and design but much more carry friendly.

I have no trouble carrying said Spyderco on my cargo pants (at work) but even then I just won't carry an Opinel because of the bulky, awkward and rounded handle, all made even worse by the lack of clip

I think that everyone typically carrys what they are comfortable with. I know I've leaned towards smaller edc folders that don't eat up my pocket space. It's simply a matter of preference and knive company's do offer a wide variety of knife sizes to fit everyone's tastes.
