Reality check

Tenacious is a great "Construction" utility blade. I used one for about three years and it was a great blade in addition to a Stanley utility knife.
So you have some of his blades as well?
No. He considered them tools and, like other tools, when they wore out he tossed them and bought new ones.

Bought my first knife for 60€.
Bought my second knife for less than 40€.
Got my third knife as a gift - it costs 30€.

All three of them are in regular use and perform flawlessly despite hard use.
Paying 200+€ for a knife makes less sense if 60€ one can do the same job.

If a person has the wherewithal to be able to drive a Ferrari and wants to do so, it really does not matter what Ford makes.

Good for them and the workers that make Ferraris (and their stockholders, of which I am one - full transparency).

My most expensive knife is my custom crooked river. I carry it, and use it. I also have cheap Kershaws which I carry and use. I used my tenacious for a long time, still love that knife and use it occasionally.
And my Kershaw natrix and Natrix xl...those get used a bit!

I buy knives because I like the design. I don't mind 8cr13mov, or 420hc. They work well and are easy to sharpen. I had a milwaukee knife, and I gifted that to a guy I was working with since he didn't have one. I cleaned it up and sharpened it and he loves it. Gave my Cryo to a guy I'm working with now because his Gerber had seen better days and I felt it was unsafe. He uses it all the time. Makes me feel good.

I just like knives. Although I dont think I could go past my current cap, even though I really want a hinderer... 400+ is just too rich!

Spyderco byrd knives are good, but where i i live are way overpriced for what they are.I have tenacious ,but dont use it at all, think its iotjing special and would rather get sak.

That stands.

Nothing wrong with very expensive knives, and I'd probably buy them if I had lots of extra money.
As of now, I'll stick to best buy options :)

I have discovered a pile of great knives. Plus I’m not afraid to actually use them!
My wife asked me, “What will you cut with a $500 knife?” All I couldn’t answer was.....”nothing”

Those two knives would be considered high end to most of the guys I work with.

Sorry for you loss. Great tribute.

A bit off the beaten path, but this Christmas I got a Milwaukee chain saw and leaf blower. Fabulous ,well made tools. I ll bet the Milwaukee folder is pretty high quality relative to other outdoor work knives.

I’m in the trades. Milwaukee has really stepped up their game in the last 10 years or so. Everything I’ve tried from them is good quality. Even their sharpie is better than sharpies sharpie.

Combo of hatchet and sak,or machete and sak is perfect for camping-wilderness survival-bushcraft.Isurvival-bushcraft.I see all these specialized "bushcraft" style knives that are advertised by various expert, and do not think they work any better than sak-hatchet combo at all.Especially scandi grind thats so popular, still do not know advantages of that grind,as i find flat grind most versatile for everything. Its just marketing.
The first thing I thought when I read the op was that much of the high dollar knife world is based on marketing. As one gets older and more experienced with work knife use, one realizes that.

Thanks for the info.
The Milwaukee equipment I got replaced some high quality equipment that I ve used for years. Seems to be better, or maybe just representative of general improvement in the market. So far I like my new stuff.

I have no problem with expensive quality knives, and love them, but lots of companies are selling mediocre knives with sub optimal heat treat and geometry that perform worse than these cheap inexpensive offerings, and then you have fanboys praising how these knives perform etc.....If i had extra money id go with custom, fixed or folding, from reputable maker, and thats it Theres still few companies that make production knives that are giving customers good bang for money ,but most is overpriced garbage .

Im getting sebenza one day,its its overpriced, but i like it....Extrema ratio resolza is another one of great quality that i have, but that knife sits on shelf, and is not used at all like all my spydercos, benchmades and bunch of others.I just sharpened up my mora companion knife, that i use at work for construction, demolition, etc, basically any task. These are amazing for price, take the beating and come back.I dont dont like the grind on them but they work and are razor sharp, will regrind it soon to almost flat, high saber.
