Really bad blade play on the Spyderco Military?

Lots of vertical and side to side. I can't tighten it anymore without it being inadequate. I can't send it back - I live in Australia.

Nope. I took it a part just then. The washers look ruined, not sure why. Any idea if Spyderco will send me some new ones?

Try calling Spyderco Customer Service and explaining what is going on.

Can yu try and explain a little further why the washers look ruined? Perhaps there is a fix. Did you try putting the knife back together sans the washers?

IIRC the Military has an excentric pivot which allows adjustment.
If not put together properly....
You can do a search here on BF; there are some threads, that explain it.
Hope this helps.

The earlier millies had the eccentric pivots. The newer ones don't.

Have you flicked it a lot? I mean hard inertial openings with your arm. Was there play before you took it apart?

Best suggestion is to write Spyderco in Golden, Colorado and ask for help.

12:20AM here. I will shoot them an email tomorrow. Any more suggestions fellas?

Sounds like calling Spyderco and getting new washers is about all you can do. They should be able to sell you the washers.
Good luck.

Also, don't take it apart again once you get it straightened out:p

This may be a stupid question, but is the pivot seated properly? One side (the female) has a flat part that fits into its mated scale ( the clip side)

I didn't take it apart until just then, to examine it. It was bad beforehand. That was the first time I took it apart.

Try heating the blade up with a lighter until you see the black soot, that might expand the metal and eliminate the play.

I think this was sarcasm...

Anyways, since sending it back isn't an option, try loosening all of the screws, normally deploy the blade, then tighten all of the screws down while the blade is locked open. Close it then recheck to see if that helped with the vertical play; sometimes the scales are misaligned and the lock face doesn't make full contact with the blade tang. Check to make sure the washers are in, the stop pin is seated, and clean the knife thoroughly. If Spyderco can't send you washers, ask them what the washer size is and look for any knife kit sites in Australia. :) Good luck!
