I was finally able to scrape and save enough to place my order for a KMG. I'm also just about finished up with the framing and drywall on a small "dirty" room where I'm going to be moving the No Weld Grinder. I should have that done tomorrow if the joint compound dries quick enough.

I talked to a lot of people and got a lot of advise from people I respect about the variable. In the end I went with the rotary platen over the variable. I learned on the three step pulley and I know them and I plan on doing the majority of my grinding on the rotary, so I went that direction.

In all here is what I ordered.

I went with the Platen KMG.
I have a 2HP motor
The base plate
3 step pulleys
rotary platen
slack attachment for my 4" and 2" contact wheels
extra tool arm

I also have a note into Kanter to see if he accepts Paypal for the MAP arm. If he does I will be ordering that as well.

I'm so pumped its not even funny. Since nobody here really gets it, I thought I'd share it with you all!

MHill, that's awesome. I'm ordering one in about 2 weeks. Still trying to decide if step pulleys or variable speed is the way to go. What exactly is the rotary platen used for?

Sha-weet! I got my KMG in 09 and it is still my best shop investment to date!
Congrats, and don't forget the baby pics when it arrives:D

Who is selling the MAP arm and how much. I remember aseeing it awhile back and wanting one

Awesome Mike! I'm still cranking away on my NWG, but I love it. One day I may get a commercial rig, and a KMG would be on the short list for sure.

Very cool, Michael!!

I see you stuck to the original plan. I think you'll be very happy!

Looking forward to seeing it in action buddy!

Thanks, everyone.

You can tell I was high on life earlier. I just reread my original post. Half of the sentences I wrote above didn't make sense to me and I wrote them.

Anyway, Jonny. I fought long and hard over the variable. I priced and priced and looked for different options and in the end it came down to the rotary. I'm a convex nut and I wanted that tool more than anything else.

I still didn't get that "dirty room" finished. I started hanging out with my son and got distracted.

I'm still waiting on the MAP arm but the KMG is here and up and running. I finished my dirty grinding room (closet) and put the No Weld Grinder in there. The KMG is a smooth running machine. It's really exciting to get out there and work now. I am working hard to get these knives profiled, ground and off to Peters so I can go try out the dirty room and the dust collector system on some scales.

It's the Heavy Duty 16 speed drill press from Harbor Freight. I figured I'd just run it into the ground, but it just keeps going.

Why put only 1 grinder in the dirty room ?

I don't have much room. A little less than half of a single bay in a 3 car garage. That "closet" is like 4' X 5'. I thought about just enclosing my entire area, but decided on just making that small room instead. I'll just make wood, G10 and Micarta dust in there.
