Really grizzly bear story

Very Interesting...

i was stationed in kodiak awhile back, just after the navy base was turned over to the coast guard, heard the turn-over was delayed a few days because one nite the OOD went to check on why the two marine gate guards did not report in. found an empty guard shack with 15 or so .45acp shell casings on the floor, no guards. after daylight found what a brown bear had left of the two marines about 50 yds. away. they found the bear about 100 yds. away where it had finally expired with 15 holes in it's vitals. guard shack was moved back alot closer to base after that.....i can't verify if this was true or not.

i personally however was out to the base rifle range which was out in the woods, had to park then walk in about a half mile. sighted in my .300 winchester magnum, and was leaving about dusk, on walk back noted that all my incoming footprints in the snow/mud were overlayed with these huge bear tracks where it had followed me in. i very carefully made sure i had a full magazine, and VERY carefully walked back to the car & drove back to the BOQ. never did see the bear though. frequently saw browns on the mountain across the bay from where my ship was moored...

Tohatchi, Nikon makes a 2000mm lens, that's 40X your eye. I'd still be nervous.

Timothy Treadwell, founder of Grizzly People and noted for talks on Brown bears in schools, co-author of book on bears dead. Conservationists had previously pointed to his activities as in effect asking for it. Treadwell reportedly went within touching distance of the bears repeatedly.

Was former heroin addict who got into the bears trying to find something to keep from returning to the habit."

Wonder what the psychology behind all that is? I mean wonder if he was getting high from the danger?

I know a couple who are pretty heavy substance abusers. Their one daughter is totally straight and hates her parents for their lifestyle. Recently however it came to light that she was cutting herself when under stress. It was like she had that genetic predisposition to do something to take her mind off dealing with her problems and since drugs were off the table some other risky stuff took their place. Strange.

I completed the needed education and training requirements to switch from a job as welfare social worker to one in substance abuse.

At the last moment before licensure I asked myself if I really wanted to go from a 1% win ratio to a 10% win ratio. I went to work for an Indian Tribe instead.

Ain't them three choices just the grandest, most rewarding, most fulfilling things you can think of?

Can't imagine why I feel a kinship with Uncle and his bunch of crazy kamis. We both know better.
