Thanks for the heads up Neal, really appreciate it.

I saw the one he posted right when he put it up, but he's not shipping to the great white north!
I have to respect that....

FHCK has them, so I just have to be quick on Friday's!

You must be careful talking about the buying process here on the traditional forum. The mods take it a little more serious here than they do in General.
You must click on a members profile to leave a visitor message. There is no quick link for visitor messages like there are for PMs and emails.

I am not sure if you mean me?

All 3 dealers I have mentioned are paying members on this forum....

I just visited the CaseXX catalogue and I've fallen in love with Watermelon Bone when coupled with polished Silver bolsters....

They make a beautiful trapper in that combo...

I can see this is going to end up really bad! I hate you guys already!!!

Wait! Take a deep breath! Read what a person whose attitude I admired (and envied) had to say:

Instead of jumping into this feet first and accumulating 20-30 knives as fast as I can, I am going to focus on getting what I want, which I can already see is leaning more toward the custom side of things with some productions mixed in there as well..

Maybe I should hang around here, get to know you guys and the knives better and make informed decisions as this is not going to be inexpensive, but it's going to be a heck of a lot of fun.

Patience is something that will get me where I want this to go....

Welcome to the Porch, JR88FAN!! :D:thumbup::thumbup:

Queen Cutlery's Country Cousin in D2 needs consideration, all you need in a work-knife actually.

There are versions in Green Micarta and a larger lockback version too.

Thanks, Will

Thank you sir, I am just trying to read and learn as much as I can at this point.

There is also the GEC 21 which is the full size sodbuster. You can also look at some of the other knives in GEC's farm and field line like the 47(?) which will probably be easier to track down right now. There is also the smith and sons mudbug which is a locking sodbuster made by GEC for smith and sons. Then you also have the Queen mountain man(?). There are probably a few other current or recently released production sod buster patterns I'm forgetting.
If You like the insingo' wharncliffe-esque blade then you might like the GEC viper or any one of the other single blade wharncliffe models.

Really like the GEC Viper, thanks for pointing me in that direction.

Seems ironic thar 90% of the models that intrigue me at the moment are "currently unavailable" !

Patience.

Take a look at the GEC 99 Wall Street. I thought I saw that you liked wharncliffe blades, has a lockback... so it is an easy transition from more "modern" folders. I too am a recent convert.

Lots of reading to do.:D
If you have that dollar burning a hole in your pocket...and just to get it done, head over to collectorknives and head over to the pre-order page and get in on the #72 lockback, if it appeals to you, many are already in the red! Doesn't even cost anything till the knife is released.
the kniveshipfree site can get you to sign up for email notifications on certain upcoming knives.
but ,yup, take your time.:p

I apologize. I probably jumped the gun a little.

It is a beautiful knife that is for sure! They are a little large for my taste but beautiful none the less. Another nice one is the sheepsfoot 15 boys knife. I have the single blade version, and it hits so many sweet spots for me.
I would suggest you take a look at Queen. Their QC(from what I hear) can be pretty iffy, but they have a ton of models in stock. Plus, they use d2 on many of their models which is a nice change from the sea of 440 and 1095 steal you usually see on production slip joints. I am really close to pulling the trigger on either a stockman or whittler.
Regarding GECs, patience will be your best friend! It will take a few runs to get the hang of getting ahold of certain models. It is a pain, but it can really be worth it.

Schatt & Morgan have released a few knives with cpm-154 as well as having a line that is always Ats-34. They are Queens high end , if you don't count tuna valley, which again have either 154-cm or maybe a few with cpm-154. Queen's d2 is pretty well respected, at least in terms of edge holding. A.G. Russell's is a great site/catalogue to check out, even for purely informational purposes.

The Mudbug by Smith and Sons is worth checking out, if you're interested in sodbuster-esque knives. Especially if you like micarta scales.

Careful Alex...
The GEC #71 Sodbuster was THE ONE that sent me down this dark dark traditional abyss and meeting all these shady and questionable individuals here on the porch...

Kidding ... :p
It's a fantastic knife to start with and a great place to kick back, read some great stories and gather much knowledge from some amazing people.
