These blocks were all cut from a burl I got from a Veneer Mill owner. This was part of his stash that he had to sell when he went out of business. Much more dramatic figure than your normal maple burl. This is some of the really, really good stuff.
We got the burl over 2 years ago. It was cut into slabs about a year ago then I stashed it in my (unheated) shop. These blocks are most of the way dry, but you should store them in a warm dry place over the winter to allow them to adjust to your climate before using. They should be ready to use this spring.
All these blocks were cut from the same burl but you will see a variety of colors and types of burl figure. The pieces with red/orange areas are called "redheart".
This coloring happens sometimes at the center of really big maple burls. A few will have some spalting where the burl was starting to die at the very center. All this makes for a good variety of really dramatic looking handle blocks. These blocks have only been lightly beltsanded at 120 grit. The grain and figure will become much more defined when it is sanded further.
All these blocks are the same price $15 each.
Volume discounts are:
If you get 6 or more, $12 each.
Or for purchases of 12 or more $10 each.
Just post "I'll take #s ...." and I will mark them sold for you. Let me know when you are finished and I will send a PM with your total and payment details.
US shipping is $2.50 each or the cost of a USPS flat rate box. Whichever is less. If you will post pictures of your finished knife here on the forum, I will pay US shipping for you.
Photos show the wood lightly misted with water so you can get a better idea what the figure and colors will be like. They will look even better when you fine sand and finish these. Some blocks will have some bark pockets or voids that could require a small fill if any fall within your handle are.
