Is the sharpener one that you pull the knife through?

If it’s a carbide draw-through type they are incredibly hard on knife edges, and remove a ton of steel unnecessarily.

Glad you brought that up. And, you are correct, they are hard on knives.

The answer is no. A Spyderco
Sharpmaker is not carbide draw through kind of system.

About the sharp maker, how exactly does that thing work? Up until this point, I have been using a cheap handheld knife sharper. (Like that old ones, not a wet sone, but the ones that have the V shape)

My bad, I should have quoted PhoenixKing’s statement quoted above. A Sharpmaker is indeed an infinitely better option than a pull through, as you said.

Ok, the link was removed for some reason...

It’s a “Smiths Abrasives Knife sharpener”

It’s a “pull through” but the course and the fine are right next to each other - pretty much just a cheapy found at Walmart.

I will consider the Spyderco one, maybe I can find one used at a lower prices ;)

(I’ll try the link one for time: https://www.bobwards.com/smiths-abrasives-knife-and-hook-sharpener-180166?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=googlebase&cvsfa=2455&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=31323931373234&cid=837522421&aid=49714429184&keyword=294682000766::pla-294682000766&kid=294682000766&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhb36BRCfARIsAKcXh6GxdbfzrPJVBWQMoB-l7QkDHipxFr529P4hgXdgJp97lbcuWQGz1zsaAm52EALw_wcB)

That is the type of sharpener to avoid if you can. The ceramic side can be ok but, the carbide side can tear up a blade. I have seen knives ruined from stuff like this.

So we came to a compromise...

I can get any pocket knife I want, as long as it’s concealed. (Meanings: in my pocket or in my waste band. I will most likely carry it in my waste band)

So I can still except the knife from jlauffer jlauffer and @Boru13. (I will PM you guys my address)

jlauffer jlauffer : will you please provide a link for the knife? I want to see the stats and stuff. :)

I don’t know why, but I still have a burning sensation for a Spyderco, lol.

Here is some info from BladeHQ...this one shows a plain edge, while the one I will be sending you is a partially serrated edge as shown in post #258.

Is there any other good sharpener that doesn’t cost as much? (It is pretty pricey...)

If the one I have now is OK, and will continue to function (as long as I don’t use the “course” side) I see no reason why I really NEED the Sharpmaker. (If course, I really don’t NEED any of this. :D)

As soon as I get the Utilitac, I swear I will be officially addicted.:rolleyes:

You can buy a brand new Norton India stone for about $15.
