reasons against waved endura

I am about to buy an endura. And I thought since they are about to (re?)release the waved version, the obvious choice is to wait on it. Please give me strongest arguments on not waiting for the wave, and just ordering a non waved version now.

So far I have: I'd could have the non-waved version immediately vs waiting a month or more (?); I like the appearance of the standard version, and if I can't use the wave (never tried it before), I would have a funny looking blade for nothing; waved version obviously would have a weaker blade (though don't know if difference is significant, or that I would ever even approach levels of force that would matter); have heard it can tear up your pocket.

Anyone know aobut the sites that list the waved enduras for sale, but say "coming soon"- if you buy-it-now, is that effectively a pre order? Anyone know when they will start shipping?

thanks,
justin

Uhmmm....you'll wanna wait for the waved Endura. The waved Enduras open much better than even the Emersons themselves. the tips are slightly stronger than the normal Enduras, and they are very nice knives. Only thing I can really say against them is that they're ugly as heck, but...you aint lookin' to buy an Endura for it's beauty anyways, are ya'?:D

It amazes me how much people are currently getting for the waved Enduras that are out there, when it's becoming a production item anyways.

Reasons NOT to wait?

1. you like a finer tip, or found a special one (unique handle color, etc.
2. you're an impatient SOB and want your new knife NOW
3. You're an accomplished Tinker Gnome that feels you can wave a standard Endura just fine by yourself
4. you're heading into a war zone or something, and need a decent folder NOW, not whenever the Waved model is introduced

Seriously though, if you can stand the wait, I'd suggest that route. They are VERY nice knives. I sold my two off to dig myself out of some debt, but when construction work starts for me this summer, I may very well have another one myself if they're available.

How could you sell off a waved Endura !?!?!? What a great knife ... (Oh, yeah, I got both of them off ya!)

jlh2600, if anything, they have a stronger blade than the regular Endura. I don't know if the new ones will have steel liners, I think I read they will. That would make the whole knife rock solid. The Wave is excellent, deeper and smoother than Emerson's, and it will not tear up your pocket. If you don't need speed, think of it as a bottle opener. :)

Please stand by for The Standard Bladeforums Response:

The Endura 4 without the Wave looks like a great knife in its own right. Get one now, and get a Waved Endura when they come out !!! :D

In case you weren't aware, the picture at that link is of the old model. I'm assuming the new one will be priced closer to the regular Endura and will be a regular production model.

That's right. And the old model is unlined, which is weaker, but not fragile, and very lightweight and fast in your hand.

Let's see, if you prefer to carry your tactical folders tip-down; the wave feature is useless! If that's your preference, get one of the current Endura 4s and position the carry-clip accordingly. If you prefer tip-up carry, wait for the waved Enduras to come out.

I have been waiting to get the waved Endura 4. I haven't bought the standard version yet, i wanted to get my hands on the waved one first.

Hav eyou pre-ordered yours mongo? This isn't going to be like the first waved endura, a limited run? It will be a normal production run?

Where can we find out specifics (like est. ship date and whehter it will have the liners and vg-10 or aus6).

It has the same specifics as the standard Endura/delica 4, only the blade has been factory waved (VG10).
I don't know when they will release it. Iirc Kristi spoke of april/may.

C10PGYW* - Endura 4 Wave PlainEdge - MSRP $84.95 (ETA Apr)

C11PGYW* - Delica 4 Wave PlainEdge - MSRP $76.95 (ETA Apr)

I have not pré-ordered mine, i believe they will be production blades.

Well I see them listed on lots of sites, just no descriptions. If they are the same as the other enduras, I'm going to go ahead and try the buy-it-now on one that has it for $50 (saw one for $45, but it looked pretty small time- a fishing site).

Guess they'll ship it when they get it. I can wait til may.

Thanks all.

I don't mind the waved version but if you want an argument against it, the only ones that I can come up with are:

looks real ugly.

Does'nt work with tip-down carry.

Looks real ugly.

If you're stabbing something, the wave will hit the material preventing to-the-hilt-penetration.

And it looks real ugly.

Hey Guys...

I've got one of the original 500 from SDF, and you'll have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.. Seriously!

It's a Frigging Awesome knife,,and I'd buy another in a heartbeat..

I love my waved emersons. I have several pairs of bdus that do not. Baggy pants with wave is a precarious thing in deed. It is extremely fun and useful, but you might just find yourself with air conditioning holes behind the pockets. Why would you want tip down carry? There is no faster deployment system for a folder than the wave, anywhere.

I wouldn't wait for a waved version, but I wouldn't want a waved knife anyway.
I'd say I'm in a small minority here, but I think clips are tough enough on your pockets, and for me, a wave on the blade could actually be a breaking point to talk myself OUT of buying one, lol
Also, as far as tip up vs. tip down ....heck, it takes you about 2 minutes to get used to one or the other and speed of deployment is negligable, if any at all.... you just grab the knife slightly differently.
As a sidenote, I can open my microtech LCC considerably faster with the thumb stud them with the bolster release, and that's probably the case with kust about anyone.
Of course, the bolster release is fun and makes a nice click....... ;)

I will probably get one just to play with. I love my new Endura 4, it's been a great EDC while doing yardwork. While I will get a waved model I doubt it will replace it. Concerns about wearing out my pants pocket too.

The knife looks fugly. I love it. When it comes to Spydercos, seems like uglier is better. My favorite knives are ones that are waved. Almost all of my knives are waved. Like my Maxx, Emersons, Kershaw Talon, so I am biased towards waves. One thing though, the Spyderco wave is so large, you really have to grab the entire knife including the blade so that it doesn't open unintentionally.
But think about it. For just a few nickels more, you will have an incredible feature that is not found on the base model. It opens better than Emersons that cost almost twice as much.

Hey Guys..

Would have to agree 100% of what deathshead says,,except for the Fugly part..
Don't think the Waved Endura is Fugly at all..

I'll tell you one thing..

My Emerson is collecting Dust!!
