For consideration is a rare Exclusive EXO by Reate. Unlike most with the wood, G10, or micarta inlays, this one features no inlay but in place of, an intricate speed holes design. It’s the “plain jane” of the EXO to provide analogy of Chris Reeves’ Sebenza. Yet unlike the standard Sebenza model this is anything but standard. Now discontinued this was from an exclusive run and the benefits are not only less screws and hardware and less opportunities for grime or liquid to get underneath the scale inserts, the “speed holes” actually provide a good amount of grip and place for your fingers. This in turn translates to greater control and an even more fun experience manipulating the action.
How does the Exo compare to the Combat Troodon?….
This knife is fidget fun at its best but also packs a hell of a lot of practicality. Even more efficient than a push trigger auto, it is the same size as the Combat Troodon only instead of shredding your thumbs and leaving your hand muscles spasming to actuate, the EXO provides a much more enjoyable experience and saves those thumbs. “It’s all in the wrist” as they say. Also full titanium integral type design without springs or lots of hardware vs. internal mechanism, overabundance of hardware, and aluminum construction.
Another charm and what initially drew me to the knife was it appealed to my geek-out Mandalorian fan side. Reminiscent of the Dark Saber, it was able to be deployed with relative ease and just has that look. The actual blade is El max super steel and profiled in a way that is perfect for actual cutting tasks while being strong in the tip and still retaining that Samurai look. The knife has great balance, 6AL4V Titanium frame/handle w/ bead blast finish while the blade has satin and stonewash two-tone. The knife performs as attractively as it looks!
