I was looking to trade some knives in a FB edc group I am on and a guy offered up a Reate Horizon A.. I've had my eye on that knife for a while and he sent me some photos but.. It looks "off". The blade steel on it is s35vn.. I thought they came with M390? Also.. The pivot looks like the one on the Horizon B and not like the one on the Horizon A. The handle looks right for the Horizon A though.. Odd, almost like someone frankensteined an A and a B together? Or perhaps an early version of the A? Anyone have an idea? Legit?

Possibly someone had an A and a B and swapped parts to make the one they liked best, and this was the one left over.
However, that pocket clip looks like it's from some of the C's

Looks legit to me, I would lean towards of your frankenstein theory.

Interesting... and, odd. I was hoping for just an A.. Minus the franken, lol. Thanks for the info!

Well the only other thing you can do is contact david who owns reate and ask if he ever remembers making a one off for someone. What concerns me is when these guys were making blank no name knives and they had two similar models they would change the stop pin size to prevent parts from being swapped. If they are still doing that I worry the knife had to be modified to get that blade to fit. They may not do that anymore and the parts could be interchangeable I dont really know. But M390 while being a premium steel not everyone is a fan. And david has been very accommodating in doing one offs so its possible someone asked for a horizon A with S35VN blade. But the only person who can confirm is David.

Sounds like maybe Reate repaired a couple knives at Blade and had some left over parts and put together the franken monster lol.

Contacted Reate fb page... They tell me:

"did you guys ever make horizon a with s35vn blades?"

"Yes , S35vn just limited edition on horizon a ! Thanks"

"ahhhh.. he said he got it from display model at Blade"

"Yes , just sell at Bladeshow."

Hello. I have the Horizon A. Unless the offering is a one-off, or special order, the steel is M390. That was one of the main reasons for choosing the A. The Horizon B has the CPM S35VN Steel.

David is very good about responding, on Facebook or here in the forums. He's quite active
Enjoy your LE Horizon A :)

Have not traded for it yet but probably am going to still go thru with it even with the funky combo and "inferior" steel.. Still a fan of s35vn and I'm trading a cpl blem "xxxx" ZTs for it.

S35VN is still pretty nice.
Will this be your first Reate? If so, I say pull the trigger on that trade!

Yep! I mailed off my portion and he mailed off his portion of the trade... Should have it Wed or Thursday. I have 3 Kizer knifes which are all very nice and I heard the Reate's are even nicer so I look forward to checking the knife out :D

From what I have seen I prefer Reate. Kizers are great lookers but I havent handled one that I didnt find an issue with. Usually minor and just personal preference though.

Yeah... Reate knives seem to be a small step up from Kizer. I have 3 Kizer's... ki5401A1, ki4411, and a ki3411-1... No issues with any of them... The naming scheme is pretty horrible though lol.

Got the knife in yesterday... Super nice piece :)
