hey i have alot of rail spikes would that contrast well with 5160?

i thought about cutting a bunch of the heads off and cutting it length wise and cubing it up for when i finnaly get into trying to make some damascus

I tested some railroad spikes for Joe (Valimas) a while back and they were low carbon. .3 or I think but I can't remember for sure. Maybe he might.

can rebar be used atleast for practice forging?

absolutely. but if your just practicing and not trying to make a knife, you might want some mild steel. it moves alot easier, especially fordecortive pieces like leaves.

IIRC .3 carbon is right on for HC spikes
