At Jerry's suggestion, I bought a bottle of the run-of-the-mill Rebel Yell bourbon last month. See: http://www.rebelyellwhiskey.com/
It was relatively cheap, price-wise.
Anyway, I finished a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle 12 Year "Lot B" last night, so had the opportunity to open up something new. The Rebel Yell got the nod.
First of all, this bourbon is not bad. Not bad at all. It has no negative smells nor tastes. The only thing I can say is that it lacks some character and depth, but at its price point, it is arguably quite good. It is also relatively smooth.
I'd rather enjoy something by Buffalo Trace or ORVW, but that's at a higher price point. At this lower price point, it's hard to go wrong. If you enjoy bourbon, take Jerry's suggestion, and give Rebel Yell a whirl.
