This was kinda fun to do. The knife is from a friend at work, it belonged to his dad. I have never done a leather handle but I think it turned out alright. Here is a before and after.

Congrats on a job well done. I have gotten a bunch of those reclamation projects and try to stay away from them honestly....they take time away from my projects and the folks never pay what its worth for all the time you put into it.

I only take on those type projects to whom there is a ton of sentimental attraction to the knife. I re did my grandfathers knife, a friends grandfather's boy scout knife, etc....thats the only way I will take on that type of project.

Again, congrats...you did a surpurb job there.

Thanks for the compliment. I really don't do re-dos either, because they take away from other projects, but it was pretty sentimental. I enjoyed seeing it all come together though, and the look on his face when he got it back was worth it.

Well, it isn't always about productivity. You did something good, there and that knife will probably be a family keepsake now, not just a rusty blade sitting out in the garage.

Great job!

Nice job. As far as re-do's, I feel the same. I got sucked into one (which quickly turned into two) by a good friend's mother; I agreed to it before she showed me them. Turns out the knife is not a knife but a 2 foot sword that wasn't even heat treated, no handle, and the finish was ground with a deck grinder. The other is an old hatchet, that has a few HUGE dings in it and covered in rust.... both have been sitting in my shop for 1.5 years now, and when I feel charitable, I put alittle time into them. I have learned my lesson since.

great job!
i picked up an h15 on e-prey a couple years ago, too.
