Sal,FWIW, Steve Gartin is making some outrageous statements about you in the above forum. Just thought you might like to know.

There's a long history here. I don't believe we'll ever hear all of it. Frankly, I don't want to hear about it. If other forumites are interested, they can just go to rec.knives and read Steve's view of things. He's said some pretty wild things there. I'm sure Sal already knows about Steve's posts. Maybe we should leave well enough alone in this case.

Sal has been really terrific to BladeForums members. I believe we should be appreciative of that and let sleeping dogs lie. Just my view of things Krom, no offense intended.

Peace.

I got here by way of rec.knives a couple of months ago. Steve had been posting his stories for a while and I, knowing nothing at all about either Steve or Sal, wondered at first about what was going on. I try to keep my mind open (just not so open my brains fall out) so I didn't completely dismiss Steve's claims immediately, even though he set off several of my standard crackpot alarms.

In the meantime, I have been spending some time here and have continued to read rec.knives also. I think Sal has little to fear for his reputation. Steve has shown himself to be full of hate not only for Sal, but for just about everyone and everything else, while Sal has shown himself to be a gentleman with a good word for everyone.

I know that there is some small chance that my assessment could be wrong. The best con-men always come across as nice guys. But when you're looking at a pair of guys and one of them has a real obsession, little or nothing to say about the ostensible topic of the newsgroup, is ranting about "Lutherans" and contrasting them with "Christians", refers to Joel Rosenberg as having a "good Christian name" and is generally ranting about everyone from Sal to the entire state government of Colorado; while the other guy (Sal) is a real participant in BF, gives away a real honey of a rare knife for a contribution to the Denver Children's Hospital and never has anything but good to say about his competitors, it's pretty clear which way to bet about who is the lunatic and who is the good guy. I don't expect to lose a lot of sleep wondering if I've read the two of them right. And from my reading of rec.knives, I don't think many other people have much problem with that either.

I dont know the deal and dont want to. Sal has done alot of things for us forumites that he didn't have to. I have learned alot from Sal's posts here and I feel that he is definatley a statesman of the knife industry.

Haven't read Mr. Gartin's comments, and at this point; don't intend to.From what I have seen in my limited exposure, Sal and his company have provided me with several products that I'd rather not do without in my line of work at, what I feel is a fair price. Also is providing the Forum members with a pretty nice knife (exactly as we asked for it);readily responds on the Forum to talk with half-wits like myself, and provides products to worthy causes as charity (like the Forum)....and I'm sure lots that we don't even hear about.
Hope it's evident from this whose side I'll be taking if indeed there is ever any support needed...but somehow I feel Sal is perfectly capable of carrying his own drinking water.

I have"NEVER" had a single problem with Spyderco or their staff(esp Danelle) and to the best of my knowledge neither has any of my friends or family.
I have not read the readings on this lunatic fringe nor do I care to. As has been stated already, Sal has been most patient, gracious and kind with us in all areas and I for one give him my full support.
Keep up the good work.

Krom - thanx for the input. Yes, I was/am aware of Steve and his comments. Steve Gartin is a very bright man and at one time we were friends. I hope he sorts his problems out.

Bob - Steve does this periodically.

Thanx for the support forumites. (For your own personal info. I am not guilty of any of the allegations that Steve is/has been making).

Sorry for anyone who may have misunderstood the reason for my post, although I think Sal figured it out. I don't listen to ravings in any forum, and all I know about him, is that he raves, and very caustically. What I do know, is that I strongly dislike anyone who talks behind somone elses back. This has driven me nuts all my life, and I didn't want to see it happening here. I only wished to warn Sal what was going on, and I'm gratified to find out that he already was aware of this situation. Enough said.
