Game used for would be whitetail deer, turkey, mabey the occational grouse or rabbit. I would think something with a 3-4 inch blade would suffice. Price range would be say... $125 give or take. I would tend to want something traditional as far as handle material wood, stag ect.

So what do ya guys got?

Have you looked at the Spyderco FB01 Moran trailing point and drop point knives. They sound like exactly what you are seeking. You may, however, want to spend some of the money that you save on a different sheath as the one that comes with it is not so good. Here is a link to one of the drop points: http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1743

Edited to add a link to a picture and description

I absolutely love my Benchmade 190 in D2 with laminate scales, full flat grind, 3.5" blade, around $100. Great, great little hunting knife.

I have been looking a Bark River knives. They are pretty much on the top of my list right now. Just wondering what else is out there.

micarta handles though....

ranger RD6, SRKW M6, Ka-Bar's. All those would allow easy chopping through bone no problem. Ranger also has custom shorter models made. RD3 and RD4. Its always nice to have a little extra peace of mind that you wont break your knife no matter what you do to it in the field.

Get over that "natural handle materials" thing, and get yourself either a Buck "Skinner", or a Benchmade 151 Fixed Griptilian.

Depending upon how much you wish to pay, you may wish to consider one of John Greco's fine knives. His site is at http://www.grecoknives.com/ and I can speak to the quality of his work as I have three of his knives and love all three of them. Give him a call as he is a real gentleman of the old school with whom to deal.

Good call FullerH!! I oicked one up from the man himself at Blade. Yes, his knives are great.

Fallkniven H1. The blade has much more sweep/belly than the F1, thicker blade, larger more grippy handle. I have both the F1 and the H1. I carry the F1 for most general purpose stuff, but the H1 IMHO is a much better skinning/butcher knife. The Bark River Gameskeeper is an excellent knife as well.

Buck Woodsman 4" Blade about $50 or so right now.
Kabar Little finn- Stacked Leather handle. $30 to $40 usually.
Swedish Mora's $10 to $20

Any of those will do the job and are relatively inexpensive.
